     As Schmitt (2010) noted, “learners carry around


    dictionaries and not grammar books” (p.4).
     The National Reading Panel (2000) in Hiebert and
    Kamil (2005: 7) stated that computer technology
    can be used effectively as a medium to help
    teaching vocabulary.

    According to:

    Richards (2002: 255), vocabulary is the core component of


    language proficiency and provides much of the basis for how
    well learners speak, listen, read, and write.

    Kamil and Hiebert (2005:3) defines vocabulary as “the knowledge


    of meanings of words”.

    Based on Reverso Dictionary (2014), mastery refers to having great


    skill at something and also refers to similar power or ability.

    According to Nation (2008: 7);

    the most important group of words is the high frequency words of

    the language. These words occur very frequently in all kinds

    of uses of the language. They are needed in formal and

    informal uses of the language. Mastering vocabulary is one of

    the learners’ needs in order to understand the language. In

    English teaching-learning process, mastering vocabulary well

    can help the students to understand the lesson.

    “Mr. Detective”

     Jill Hadfield in Deesri (2002:1) defined games as “an activity with


    rules, a goal and an element of fun”.
     Deesri (2002:2) added that games involve many factors: rules,
    competition, relaxation, and learning, in particular.

     Paul (2003: 30) states that games are any fun activities which give
    young learners opportunities to practice the foreign language in a
    relaxed and enjoyable way.
    The Game
    The game application “Mr. Detective” is an example of an
    Application educational game that can be downloaded for free on a mobile
    “Mr. Detective” devices or computers also can be played offline without turning
    on cellular data. “Mr. Detective” focuses on verb vocabulary
    which this game has levels from the easiest to the most difficult,
    has up to 200 levels.

     The use of mobile phones in collaborative English learning can


    reduce student stress and facilitate cooperation in learning English.
    Furthermore, mobile technology makes it more convenient for
    students to perform various activities, especially making students
    interact with each other and share what they have learned (Hwang,
    2014: 504).
