DSS AS INFORMATION SYSTEM
 A DSS is a specific type of IS
 If an IS is a DSS we can infer that:
 use 1 or more data store..sum internal sum external
 does not update external information sources
 communicates with the decision maker....external/part of
the system
 decision maker supplies DSS with specific information
defining decision to be made
DSS AS INFORMATION SYSTEM
WAYS TO VIEW OVERALL
SYSTEM YOU WILL DESIGN
 DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM(DSS)
 DECISION MAKING SYSTEM (DMS)
 IN DSS decision maker is outside the system
you are studying.
 IN DMS decision maker is inside the overall
system though still outside its DSS
component.

 What are external entities ( decision makers ,
information sources) with which DSS
communicates.
 Data flows to & from external entities
 What internal data files does DSS use

 Major processes in DSS...data flows among
them
 Draw it as a DFD ...will give u better
understanding
