HOUR ANGLE

(TIME
DIAGRAM)
TIME DIAGRAM
A time diagram is a diagram on the plane of the celestial
equator or equinoctial in which the celestial equator
appears as a circle, and celestial meridians and hour circles
as radial lines. It is used to facilitate solution of time
problems and other problems involving arcs of the celestial
equator or angles at the pole, by indicating relations
between various quantities involved. Conventionally, the
relationships are given as viewed from a point over the
south pole ( Ps ) westward direction being
counterclockwise

WEST LONGITUDE:
LHA = GHA – Longitude

EAST LONGITUDE:
LHA = GHA + Longitude
SHORT QUIZ
Find the LHA

1. Moon, GHA = 255°, Longitude 24°E

2. Sun, GHA = 72°, Long 75°W

3. Aries, GHA = 25°, Long 42°E

4. Sun, GHA = 190°, Long 88°W

5. Moon, GHA = 327°, Long 89°W
