Potential of Connected Vehicle Market

• The concept of shared electric and connected

vehicles could take no less than 15 years to
become a mainstream reality.
• India should look to enhance the manufacturing
expertise to a global size and scale, develop
components required for electric vehicle and
improve the renewable energy capability.
• According to a report published by a Statista, the
revenue of India’s connected vehicle market sums
to $641m in the year 2018

Applications of IoT in Automobile Industry
Infotainment: People interacting with vehicles

• Today’s infotainment systems allow passengers to

connect outside the car as well as inside the car.
• Wi‑Fi hot spots in the car will be the primary
connection that will enable a multi-user interface
similar to home Wi‑Fi networks today.
• Filter products reduce out-of-band interferences
between radio frequency (RF) bands such as
cellular, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth frequencies, and so on.
• Filters also aid in providing a safety factor. Proper
bandpass filters mitigate interferences between
bands
Telematics: Vehicles communicating with Cloud

Telematics provides high-bandwidth connectivity for IoT

integration and cloud services. Telematics has been used in
commercial vehicles for quite some time to help businesses
monitor and optimize various operational factors, such as:
• Fuel consumption
• Vehicle maintenance
• Fleet utilization
• Vehicle location
• Optimum routing
• Driver behavior
Telematics in the connected car of the future will encompass
all cellular standards equal to leading smartphone capabilities

Developing ecosystem around the

IoT.
Although we typically think of
vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) connectivity
— with lane obstruction or automatic
braking alerts, soon the connected car
will be a component of a smart city,
driven by a multifaceted connected
infrastructure and mobile devices.

Result
• VOC is now available in numerous countries worldwide and is highly successful.
• By equipping their cars with SIM cards, Volvo Cars creates revenue from products, as well as from services
• Features such as music streaming and Wi-Fi have also been introduced.
• VOC will also crowd source live updates on weather, traffic and driver safety. The platform for all this is, of
course, connectivity.
Mahindra REVA

Concept for a new breed of ‘Connected Car’

•IoT connectivity enables drivers to access various features using

a smartphone app or a dedicated webpage
•Check the state of charge in the battery of the car, control its air-
conditioning, lock or unlock doors, find the nearest charging
station
•SMS alerts, monitor vehicle’s condition and proactively warn
drivers when issues are likely to arise

Overall the partnership with Vodafone has helped Mahindra

REVA to move one step ahead of its competition
