Detector With DF

The document describes tests of a drone detector and jammer system. It outlines procedures to: 1. Sense signals from the GPS and communication jammer antennas at 10m to ensure the systems are transmitting. 2. Test the motor's ability to point the antennas based on azimuth and elevation values. 3. Perform GPS, communication, and combined GPS and communication jamming tests at 1000m and measure the signal strengths to confirm effective jamming. Calculations show the jammer signals would overwhelm the drone's GPS and communication links from 1000m.

Step4: Jammer Testing Ariff…

Details
Test 1: • To make sure the GPS jammer amplifiers are turned-on and the signal is being transmitted from
GPS Jammer Signals sensing the GPS L1 and L2 antennas.
through side-lobe • Jammer signal is sensed from side-lobe, at a distance of 10m from jammer.
• Since the side-lobe power is quite low, it is safe to do measurements at 10m distance

Test 2: • To make sure the Comm. jammer amplifiers are turned-on and the signal is being transmitted
Comm jammer Signal sensing from the 2400 MHz and 5800 MHz antennas.
through side-lobe • Jammer signal is sensed from side-lobe, at a distance of 10m from jammer.
• Since the side-lobe power is quite low, it is safe to do measurements at 10m distance

Test 3: • To test that motor is doing azimuth and elevation pointing as expected
Motor Rotation Sensing • Enter azimuth and elevation values and verify the antennas are pointed accordingly

Test 4: • To perform real-time GPS jamming test at 1000m distance.

Test 6: • To perform real-time GPS & Comm. jamming test at 1000m distance.

GPS Jammer Signal testing- Side-lobe
Procedure:

• Place the spectrum analyzer 10m away from jammer L2 signal at 1.2 GHz

• Signal is measured from 1.0 GHz- 2.0GHz band

• The GPS L1 band and GPS L2 band jammer signals

will be seen in the spectrum analyzer

• Since the signal is captured from side-lobe, the

power is low and safe for measurement.

Comm Jammer Signal testing- Side-lobe 2400 & 5800 MHz

Procedure:

• Place the spectrum analyzer 10m away from jammer

• Signal is measured from 2000 MHz- 6000 MHz band

Comm 2400 MHz
• The 2400 MHz band and 5800 MHz band jammer
signals will be seen in the spectrum analyzer

• Since the signal is captured from the side-lobe, the

signal power is low and safe for measurement.

GPS Jamming: 1000m
Procedure:
• Fly drone 100m away from jammer
• Turn ON GPS jammer
• Verify that GPS has been jammed
Jammer Signal Strength = -57 dBm
• The drone controller will display “GPS unavailable”
• Turn-Off jammer so that GPS comes back alive Satellite Signal Strength = -127 dBm
J/S = 70 dB
Minimum J/S for full jamming = 47 dB
It shows that the GNSS at drone will be fully jammed at 1000m

Kindly note:
GNSS Satellite Signal, -157 dBW = -127 dBm near earth
• This calculation is based on the assumption of 0 dBi gain for
drone GNSS antenna

• GNSS antennas are meant to receive signals from sky and are
EIRP= 10W= 40dBm directional towards the sky direction. Their gain is low or
Path Loss@1.575@1000m= 97dB negative in other directions.
Jammer Signal at Drone= 40dBm-97dB= -57 dBm
• Actual coverage may vary depending upon on the GPS antenna
10 00 m pattern of the drone. This may vary from drone to drone.

• The Free Space Loss (pathloss) calculation assumes perfect LOS

between Jammer and drone. However, this may not be true in
real situations and other propagation models may be needed to
calculate the signal strength.
Comm. Jamming: 1000m
Procedure:
• Fly drone 1000m away from jammer & 500m from controller ( 1: 2 ) ratio
Sample calculation for 200m ( 5:1)
• Turn ON Comm jammer • Jammer Signal Strength = -39 dBm
• Verify that Comm has been jammed • Comm. Signal Strength = -57dBm
• The drone controller will display “Communication not available” Jammer signal is 18dB stronger than Comm signal. This is higher
• Repeat the above procedure for 400m, 300m and 200m distance for controller than the 15 dB jamming margin of the control link. Hence the
• Verify the JSR perfrmance control link should be jammed.
