INTRODUCTION TO THE INDUSTRY:

• The hospitality industry is a broad category of


fields within the service industry.
• It is considered as one of the most profitable
industries which also accounts for over 8.78
per cent of the total workforce.
• Hospitality sector is witnessing a healthy
growth and accounts for 7.5 per cent of the
country's GDP. 
• The hospitality sector is one of the most
heavily taxed industries and is saddled with
multiple layers of tax such as VAT, service
tax, luxury tax, etc. ranging from 20 per cent
- 30 per cent.
INDUSTRY LIFE CYCLE:

• Introduction Stage: Until 1900, almost all


hotels were constructed and run as per
Western traditions. The first Indian style
hotels were Sardar Griha, which opened
in 1900, and Madhavashram in 1908.
• Growth stage: India has witnessed
considerable growth in foreign visitors
since the 2000s.
• Maturity stage: In FY19, tourism sector in
India accounted for 39 million jobs,
which was 8.0% of the total employment
in the country.
• Currently Hospitality industry is in decline stage. The reason for this position of this industry is COVID-19.
INDUSRTY SPECIFIC GOVT.
POLICIES:

• Under Budget 2020-21, the Government of India has


allotted Rs. 1,200 crore (US$ 171.70 million) for
development of tourist circuits under Swadesh
Darshan for eight Northeast states.
• Under Budget 2020-21, the Government of India has
allotted Rs. 207.55 crore (US$ 29.70 million) for
development of tourist circuits under PRASHAD
scheme.
• The Ministry of Tourism’s ‘DekhoApnaDesh’ webinar
series titled ‘12 Months of Adventure Travel’ on
November 28,2020, is likely to promote India as an
adventure tourism destination.
• The Ministry of Tourism developed an initiative
called SAATHI (System for Assessment, Awareness &
Training for Hospitality Industry) by partnering with
the Quality Council of India (QCI) in October 2020.

• New Money: New money brings with it the capital to achieve long-held

• Corporate Travel: This year, business travel is projected to grow by over 6
percent.

• Government Policies: Government is providing free loans to MSMEs to help
them to deal with the crisis and revive the economy, including the
hospitality sector.

• These are the KPI’s which every property
should run on the regular basis. They are
simple calculations, allowing you to access

standards and predictions.

• However, domestic tourists are expected
to drive the growth, post pandemic.
• Indian Hospitality Industry is getting
advanced day by day and it is adapting
itself to the new technologies in the world.
• Indian government has estimated that India
would emerge with a market size of 1.2
million cruise visitors by 2030-31.
