What is the pharmacy?

pharmacy is a study program that studies

drugs here we will learn to recognize the
structure of drug compounds and how to
synthesize them and then process them
into drugs that are suitable for
consumption, of course here we will learn
to mix, mix, formulate, identify, combine,
analyze and create drugs that meet
quality standards and feasibility is not
only concocting we also have to know
how to use these drugs safely.
Pharmacy is the clinical health science that links medical science with
chemistry and control of medications and drugs. The practice of pharmacy
requires excellent knowledge of drugs, their mechanism of action, side
effects, interactions, mobility and toxicity.
The scope of pharmacy practice includes more
traditional roles such as compounding and
dispensing of medications, and it also includes
more modern services related to health care,
including clinical services, reviewing
medications for safety and efficacy, and
providing drug information. Pharmacists
practice in a variety of areas including
community pharmacies, hospitals, clinics,
extended care facilities, psychiatric hospitals,
and regulatory agencies.
In the coming decades, pharmacists
are expected to become more
integral within the health care
system. Rather than simply
dispensing medication, pharmacists
are increasingly expected to be
compensated for their patient care
skills.
The example of pharmacist staff is
Pharmacy technicians, they are support
the work of pharmacists and other
health professionals by performing a
variety of pharmacy-related functions,
including dispensing prescription drugs
and other medical devices to patients
and instructing on their use.
The pharmaceutical sciences are subdivided into several
specific specialties, with four main branches:
a.) Pharmacology: the study of the biochemical and
physiological effects of drugs on human beings.
b.) Pharmacodynamics: the study of the cellular and molecular
interactions of drugs with their receptors.
c.) Pharmacokinetics: the study of the factors that control the
concentration of drug at various sites in the body.
d.)Pharmaceutical toxicology: the study of the harmful or toxic
effects of drugs.
Since pharmacists know about the mode of
action of a particular drug, and its metabolism
and physiological effects on the human body in
great detail, they play an important role in
optimization of drug treatment for an
individual.
In order to become a pharmacist, a person
needs to study and take a degree from an
institution that provide pharmacy course. It
takes about 4 years to finish and some
additional coursework like apothecary
profession
Duties of PharmacistsPharmacists typically do the
following:Fill prescriptions, verifying instructions from
physicians on the proper amounts of medication to give
to patients.Check whether prescriptions will interact
negatively with other drugs that a patient is taking or
any medical conditions the patient hasInstruct patients
on how and when to take a prescribed medicine and
inform them about potential side effects from taking
the medicine.Keep records and do other administrative
tasksTeach other healthcare practitioners about proper
medication therapies for patients
The field of pharmacy can generally be divided into four
primary disciplines:
1. Pharmaceutics
2. Medicinal Chemistry
3. Pharmacognosy4.
4. Pharmacy Practice
The boundaries between these disciplines and with other
sciences, such as biochemistry, are not always clear-
cut. However, pharmacy is not a basic or biomedical
science in its typical form. Medicinal chemistry is also a
distinct branch of synthetic chemistry combining
pharmacology, organic chemistry, and chemical biology.
