Frankenstein on stage By Amie and Tiana

By Tiana and Amie

Scene Description-Act 1 Scene 2

In this scene we see the characters Frankenstein, Elizabeth and

Clerval.
We find out that Elizabeth (Victor's sister) and Victor’s
(Frankenstein) father is dying.
Elizabeth is trying to get Frankenstein to come back and see his dad
before he dies but Frankenstein is busy working on his experiment.
Clerval (Frankenstein assistant/best friend) figures out
Frankenstein's plan to bring the monster to life but it's too late.
Frankenstein creates Monster.
Clerval Costumes

Clerval is Frankenstein's best friend and assistant.

We have decided to dress him in a suit.
We've chosen a suit as it represents completeness and
conformity since he likes to stick to the rules.
Typically people that wear suits are organised.
This fits Clervals character because he is a best friend
to Frankenstein who helps and pitches in his ideas.
Frankenstein costume

As Frankenstein does experiments we've put him in an

apron.
This shows the audience that he's busy and prepared
for anything.
We've also made him dirty and unhygienic as he's been
working on this experiment for quite some time and
won't be able to take care of those basic needs.
Elizabeth-Costume

During the 1818s, the year Frankenstein was based in

these types of dresses were popular amongst ladies.
We're going to put Elizabeth in this style dress as well
as making it pink because pink symbolizes caring,
acceptance, femininity and calm.
These are all the adjectives that describe her in the
play as when she was pleading Frankenstein to come
see their dad.iuuy5rfrf
Setting

We would set this on a proscenium stage.

For this scene we would have it looking like a gloomy laboratory
because he is obsessed with experimenting.
The characters would be set centre stage and then have the
creature under the sheet in downstage right.
We would do this so the characters are the focus but there is a
mysterious creature under the sheet capturing the audience's
attention and intriguing them to see what it is.
Props

I want the props we use to represent what a science

laboratory would look in the 1818s.
These would include things such as:
• Beakers
• Test tubes
• Wooden Table

Lighting

The lighting in this scene will be dimmed.

This is so the room is dark and gloomy making the audience
experience mystery.
This makes a sad tone instead of bright and happy which would not
be what we're trying to make the audience feel.
There will also be a spotlight centre stage highlighting the
characters and keeping the monster hidden in the shadows.
We would also have the light shining up to make the
monster's shadow look bigger.
Music

We will have background music that won't be the main focus of the
scene.
We will have slow graceful music to make it more like a sad scene.
(Eg slow instrumental piano)
Towards the end it will go louder and more dramatic when he
creates the monster.
(Eg drums or violin)
Position the audience

The line: “Your father, he’s very ill ... you’d better come home tomorrow!”
said by Elizabeth.
Positions the audience to be sad since the father is dying and confused why
Frankenstein has not been answering the letters.
It will also make the audience feel that Frankenstein does not care about
anything apart from the experiment (self absorbed)
It will also make the audience feel intrigued when they see a creature under
a blanket and then surprised when he creates a monster and shocked when
the creature comes to life.
Theme

Science the creation of the monster.

Secrecy and the dangers of secrets since Frankenstein did not tell
anybody about making the monster.
Family since his dad is dying, and his sister came to tell him but he
didn’t want to go.
Sacrifice as he does not want to sacrifice his experiment to see his
dad.
