What is ROMmon?
What is ROMmon?
 Bootstrap program which is a mini operating system in the Cisco devices that helps to initialize the
processor hardware and boot the operating system software (Cisco IOS).

How Router goes to ROMmon (rommon>)?


How Router goes to ROMmon (rommon>)?
 Reload, initialize, or power cycle the router with the configuration register boot field set to 0.
 Reload, initialize, or power cycle the router without having a Cisco IOS  Software image to boot from.
 Press the Break key within the first 60 seconds of the system boot.

Tools used at Rommon recovery & Firmware Upload Procedure


Tools used at Rommon recovery & Firmware Upload Procedure
 At Laptop need to configure IP at LAN port (10.1.0.0/24),
 Portable TFTP software Utility with required image file,
 FTP Server with required image file,
 Straight-through cable,
 Console Cable/Rollover Cable(RJ45 to RS232),
 USB to RS232 Converter,
 Pendrive USB v2.0 (FAT/FAT-32 Supported).
Rommon Recovery Analysis (Series-wise)
Rommon Recovery Analysis (Series-wise)
 Cisco ASR901-12C-(F-D/FT-D) can recover rommon only using Straight-through cable.

 Cisco ASR901-6CZ-(F-A/F-D/FT-D), can recover rommon using Straight-through cable/Pen drive(USB


v2.0).

 Cisco ASR-902/Cisco ASR-903/Cisco ASR-920-(24SZ-IM/12CZ-D) can recover rommon only using Pen
drive(USB v2.0).
TFTP Software Settings
TFTP Software Settings

 Step 1: Click to Settings.


 Step 2: Click to TFTP.
 Step 3: Click to Brows & select TFTP-Root folder which we have to store at ”C” Drive.
 Step 4: Select OK to complete.
 Step 5: Click Drop-Down Button to select IP which we used at LAN.
