• He was then admitted in the Swiss Federal Polytechnic
School in Zurich, Switzerland. He failed in the entrance
exam due to lacking of high school diploma because he
left the school. But he was taken because he scored good
marks in math and physics.
After University
In 1895 Albert Einstein was sent to the Swiss town of
Aarau to finish high school.
In 1896 Albert Einstien graduates from high school at
the age of 17 and enrolls at the ETH (the Federal
Polytechnic) in Zurich. He renounces his German
citizenship
• Einstein graduates in 1900 from ETH with a degree
in physics.
• During 1900-1902 this was the worst part of
Einstein’s life, he wasn’t employed and his father’s
business was also bankrupt. He lived on tutoring
children but couldn’t hold them for long.
• His father died during these years.

whereabouts remain a mystery.
• They had two sons Hans Albert, becomes an
engineer and professor and Eduard Einstein
had schizophrenia.
Miracle year-1905

While working in the patent office, he discovered

that the speed of light remains constant and
formulated the principle of relativity.
• In this year he also discovered that a small particle
of an atom can produce a lot of energy which is
known nuclear reaction.
• After this theory, Albert Einstein became very
popular and famous, he was invited to give a
speech in the international meeting and then he
rose rapidly in the academic world.
• He was offered a series of positions in many
universities and he served as a director of Kaiser
Wilhelm Institute of Physics from 1913-1933.
Nobel prize
Einstein received the 1921 Nobel Prize in
Physics quantum theory of light,
“Generation and Conversion of Light with
Regard to a Heuristic Point of View,” for
which he was awarded the Nobel Prize for
Physics in 1921 was published. The paper
dealt with the photoelectric effect and
postulated that light sometimes acts like a
stream of particles with discrete energies,
or quanta.
Achievements & Awards
1920 Barnard Medal for Meritorious service to science.
1921 Nobel Prize in Physics
1921 Matteucci Medal
1923 Genootschaps Medal

Albert Einstein in USA
• Before starting of world war ii Albert Einstein moved to
USA in 1933.

In United States, he took a position in a newly advanced

learning institute.

Roosevelt alerting him about the atomic bomb in Germany,
Roosevelt invited Einstein to meet him to discuss about the
bomb and initiated the Manhattan project.

designs of future weapons and by auctioning off priceless
personal material to earn money.
