INTRODUCTION

• I have developed the “E-VOTING” as major

project. This project is developed to cover the
various utilities of VISUAL BASIC The project is
developed for the improvement in voting system..
The development of the project have proved to be
very beneficial for me and this experience will
help me throughout my professional life. Around
the same time, I got an opportunity to work on the
development of this project.

4
Concept
• Idea mooted by the
Chief Election
Commissioner in 1977

• Recommended E-voting
to save avoidable and
recurring expenditure
on printing, storage,
transportation and
security of Ballot Paper
to the exchequer
Challenge
• Evolve a machine which
would fit into the existing
Election Procedure.

• Appear familiar to the voter

• Evolving a machine and a

procedure which would be
transparent and acceptable
to all
Solution

• Electronics Corporation of
India Limited (ECIL) a leading
Public Sector Company
engaged in the design and
manufacture of professional
electronics was commissioned
to design a machine to prove
the feasibility

• Once feasibility was

established, Bharat Electronics
Limited (BEL) a second Public
Sector Company was co-opted
into the exercise
“SCOPE OF E-VOTING”

• Times since independence, general elections in India have

come a long way, but throughout this post-independence era
they have truly reflected the federal nature of the Indian polity.
When in the neighboring countries of India, still ballot-paper
polling is still in practice, Indian voting system has moved onto
electronic voting machines. Certainly, this has eased up and
fast-tracked the polling process but still there is a lot of scope for
improvements. Main aim of conducting elections in any region is
to act as a filter to prevent the 'rouge' elements from entering in
the legislative process and at the same time reflect the true
voice of the poorest of the poor man. Unfortunately, elections in
India still have a long way to go in this respect

8
Concerns
• How secure is the data ?
• Can the data be tampered
with ?
• How does the machine
operate in remote areas
without electric power ?
• What happens if the power
fails in the middle of the
voting process ?
• Can the data be stored long
enough to be used as
evidence in a court of law in
case of electoral disputes ?
Remedies
• It is secure software .IT does
not allow the voter to vote again.

• It is tamper-proof and error free

• All the data is recorded on non-

volatile and can be retained for
longer period of time.
Features

• Reliable, robust and error free software

• User friendly operation sequence

• Portable and easy to operate

• Custom made to fit into the existing pattern

Advantages

• Modernises the election process

• User friendly – can be used even by illiterates
• Simple to operate and can be installed in a short
time
• Preserves voting secrecy
• No scope for invalid votes
• Facilitates quick and accurate counting –
possible to declare results instantaneously
• Re-usable by simply erasing votes recorded in
earlier poll

12
Advantages

• Huge expenditure involved in printing, storing and

transportation and security of ballot paper can be avoided

• Lowers operating costs

• Easier to manage with less demand on man-power

• Provision can be made to connect to a “CENTRAL

STATION” to consolidate and display / record the results
countrywide

Polling
• The voter is identified from the voters list

•A red lamp glows indicating to the voter that his vote

• has been cast in favour of that candidate
Counting & Results

• The results can be counted directly

through the database.

•The candidate with highest number of

voters wins the election.

Languages Used
•It is a powerful programming language to
develop sophisticated window program very easily
and very quickly.

•Visual Basic User Interface consists of forms and

objects.

•Microsoft visual studio is the main integrated

development environment (IDE) from Microsoft.

•It can be used to develop console and graphical

user interface applications along to window forms
applications.
