INTRODUCTION
• BORN : 28 September 1929 in Indore, Central India Agency in British India.
• ALSO KNOWN AS : Queen of Melody, Voice of the Nation, Voice of the Millennium,
Nightingale of India .

• PARENTS : Deenanath Mangeshkar and Shevanti Mangeshkar.


• Lata Mangeshkar was born as ‘Hema Mangeshkar’ and she is the most famous and
respected singer in the country till now.
CAREER
◦ She is a playback singer , music director and producer.
◦ Her singing career in 1942 for a Marathi Movie ‘ KITI HANSAL’.
◦ She also tried acting in movies but due to the influence of Ghulam Haider she became a playback
singer.
◦ Her first big hit song was ‘Dill Mera Toda , Mujhe Kahin Ka Na Chhora’ in the movie Majboor
[1948].
◦ In 1950s, she sang songs composed by various music directors and prove herself in industry.

CONTRIBUTION IN THE FIELD


• She sang the song “Aye Mere Vatan Ke Logo” against the backdrop of Sino – Indian War brings
tears in everyone’s eyes.
• She contributed so much in the music industry so thst all her songs became hit and everyone’s
favourite.
AWARDS
◦ Lata Mangeshkar has won several awards and honours.
◦ She won BHARAT RATNA, PADMA BHUSHAN [1969],
PADMA VIBHUSHAN [1999].
• Her other notable awards and honours were DADA SHAHEB
PHALKE AWARD[1969], LEGION OF HONOUR [2007].
• In 2012 , she was ranked number 10 in Outlook India’s
poll of the Greatest Indian.
• And the list goes on.

• She also became a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from
22 November 1999 - 21 November 2005.
SHREYA GHOSHAL
INTRODUCTION
• BORN : 12 March 1984 in Berhampore , West Bengal, India.
• She is an Independent Artist [Singer].
• She pursued her education in SIES College of Arts , Science and
Commerce.
• In 2015 she married to Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya.
• She has wide range of musical genres :- Filmi, Pop, Ghazal, Classical,
Bhajan, Electronic and EDM.
CAREER
◦ She aspired to become a playback singer from an early age.
◦ She made her Bollywood playback singing debut with Bhansali’s
romantic drama ‘DEVDAS’ in 2002.
• Her first ever recorded song was ‘Ganraj Rangi Nachato’ which was
a cover version of Lata Mangeshkar’s Marathi song.
• She gave evergreen and superhit songs like ‘Nagada Sang Dhol’ ,
‘ Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha ’ , ‘ Yeh Ishq Haaye ’ ,etc.
• Not only in Hindi language but also in Bengali , Tamil , Telugu,
Malayalam and English Shreya sang songs.
AWARDS
◦ Ghoshal has won four National Flim Awards for Best Female Playback Singing.
• She won seven Filmfare Awards ,one RD Burman Award for New Music Talent.
• Ghoshal has been honoured by the United States of Ohio, where Governer Ted Strickland
declared 26 June 2010 as ‘SHREYA GHOSHAL DAY’.
• She became the first Indian singer to have her wax figurine in Madame Tussads Museum.
A.R. RAHMAN
INTRODUCTION
• BORN : 6 January 1967 in Madras [now Chennai] Tamil Nadu,India.
• Allahrakha Rahman was born as A.S. Dileep Kumar for profession he
changed his name to A.R. Rahman.
• He works predominantly in Tamil and Hindi movies.

CAREER
• Rahman is a composer, musician , singer and music producer.
• He initially composed scores for different documentaries and jingles for
advertisements and Indian television channels.
◦ In 1992,he composed his first score and soundtrack for Tamil film, Roja.
◦ Rahman’s film career began in 1992 when he started Panchathan Record
Inn , a recording and missing studio in his backyard.
• He combined Western classical music , Carnatic and Tamil traditional and
folk music traditions , jazz , reggae and rock music and show his versatility.
• Rahman launched India’s 1st YouTube Original , AARived, which aims to find
best singing talent from across country.

CONTRIBUTION IN THE FIELD


• Rahman gives extraordinary songs not only in India but also in Japan, China,
and Czech Republic.
• Rahman’s ‘ Vande Mataram’ an album of original compositions released for
India’s 50th Independence Day.

◦ In 2006, he received an award from Stanford University for his contributions to global music .
◦ Rahman entered the Limca Books of Records as ‘Indian of the year for contribution to Popular
Music.
◦ He won two Grammy Awards .
◦ He received the Padma Bhushan , India’s third highest civilan honour , in 2010.
KISHORE KUMAR
INTRODUCTION
• BORN : 4 August 1929 in Khandwa, Central Provinces , British India.
• DEATH : He died on 13 October 1987 in Bombay, Maharashtra, India.
• PARENTS : His father was Kunjalal Ganguly and mother was Gouri Devi.
• He was graduated from Christian College, Indore.
• After coming to Bombay he changed his name from Abhas Kumar to
Kishore Kumar.
CAREER
• He started his cinema career as a chorus singer at Bombay Talkies.
• Kumar employed yodeling in many of his songs including Tum bin jaon kahan,
Zindagi ek safar hai suhana,etc.
• He worked in films, because his brother was an actor ,but Kumar never took his
filmy career seriously, so that between 1946 and 1955 he appeared in 22 films
out of which 16 were flops.
• Many music directors like S. D. Burman , C. Ramchandra also recognized his
talent as a singer.
• Kumar sung evergreen and popular songs like ‘Yeh Raatein Yeh Mausam’ ,
‘Gaata Rahe Mera Dil’ , ‘Mere Saamne Wali Khidki Mein’.
CONTRIBUTION IN THE FIELD
◦ From 1970s and throughout 1980s , Kumar sang songs for various
Bollywood actors .
• He sang 245 songs picturized on Rajesh Khanna across 92 films,which
is an unbeaten record for singer – actor combination.

• He won 8 Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer.
• 4 Bengal Film Journalists’ Association for Best Male Playback Award.
• He also won Lata Mangeshkar Award.
DILJIT DOSANJH

Introduction
• BORN : 6 January 1984 in Dosanjh Kalan, Jalandhar district, Punjab, India.
• EDUCATION : High School Diploma from Shri Guru Harkishan Public
School.
• PARENTS : His father is Balbir Singh and his mother is
Sukhwinder Kaur.
While still in school, he began his singing career by performing Kirtan at
local gurudwaras.
CAREER
◦ Dosanjh released his first album Ishq Da Uda Ada in 2004 with Finetone Cassettes, a division of
T- Series.
◦ After making debut in the Punjabi music industry Rajinder Singh of Finetone suggested him to
spell his first name as Diljit instead of Daljit.
◦ In between 2004-2010 he release more mix and singles music albums and songs.
