The group traveled through the dark tunnel in fear of Smaug's presence. Bilbo decided to go down the tunnel alone and discovered a vast treasure hoard including the precious Arkenstone jewel. Without a plan, Bilbo pocketed the stone. The dwarves joined Bilbo and began exploring the treasure, finding new armor and weapons. Thorin decided it was time to leave, remembering the way from his youth. They climbed stairs and found the great chamber, hearing the nearby river. Emerging from the mountain, Bilbo was relieved to see the sunlight.

Presentation Chapter 13 “Not at home”
By: Umer, Azhaan, Shafay and Qasim
Umer Darkness and quietness covered the group wholly. They were also inclined to not speak, and no one in the group ate. They could not even sleep properly, as there was no tranquility in the tunnel due to Smaug’s disconcerting presence. They were yearning the feel of air, and they could not bear more. Thorin wanted to open the door, only to welcome bleak air. They decided to open the door, but could not as Smaug blocked the entrance by some sort of rock. They all thought that they were doomed, as their fate was not on their side. Bilbo then decided that they all should go down the tunnel, where the ferocious dragon resided. Bilbo was stealthier than the dwarfs, as he was familiar with the pathway. Bilbo then also put on his ring. The room was filled with profound darkness. Bilbo shouted at Smaug in a condescending way, but thought that Smaug was not present in the room. He also asked for some light from the group, but Oin and Gloin (as lazy as they could get) forgot their tinder-boxes or lanterns. Bilbo also fell on the mound of gold, and the dwarfs stood idle, somewhat lost. Bilbo figured out where the dwarfs were, as they were attempting to make each other quiet. Thorin figured out that it was now time to send Oin and Gloin back in the tunnel, as soon as he heard Bilbo screaming “Light”. They decided that they would move, only if Bilbo (their expert burglar) gesticulated. Bilbo was endeavoring to cross the ‘gold’ mountain, but he stumbled across the most precious and highly acclaimed stone, the Arkenstone. It had a strange potent white light, which outshined all the other riches in the room. Bilbo wanted to pry closely and he was for sure fascinated with the jewel, as the sparkle induced Bilbo to inquire. Azhaan Without any real plan, Bilbo hid the stone in his pocket. As he descended to the other side of the treasure mound, a bat flied past him and put the torch out. He yelled for a light and eventually a couple of dwarves, with Balin in lead, came out and joined Bilbo. Bilbo also found them. Their mere (small) fleeting glimpses of treasure which they had caught as they went along had rekindled all the fire of their dwarfish hearts . Thorin suddenly felt bold, and he became fierce. The dwarves begun to explore the cavern and Kili and Fili played the golden harps. They all begun to fill their pockets and their bags with treasure. They put on new coats of mail and chose the finest weapons. Thorin gave Bilbo a coat of Elvish mail and a leather studded helmet. Bilbo laughed, but before long he became wary of the treasure and the extent of time they were spending in the lair. He wondered how the journey could possibly end well. Thorin decided that the time had come to leave. He remembered every stair and turn of the mountain from his long-ago youth. Shafay Thorin knew every passage and every turn of the castle. They climbed more and more stairs, and Bilbo got tired. They also found the great chamber of Thror. Bilbo also got to know that the Front gate was not far from his original location. As they passed through the room, they saw broken tables and chairs. They came very close and heard the sound of the Running River. Besides the opening through which the river passed, there was also a stone-paved road. They ran, and they were welcomed by the crisp and warm sunlight. Bilbo was also astonished by the whole shape of the Front gate, and his ecstasy grew as soon as he saw the broad daylight. The weather was also very breezy. Bilbo also started to get a little hungry. The group decided to go to a check post which was five hours away. Bilbo did not want to walk again and he was very exhausted. Thorin started to get zestful and exuberant, as he was happy to return to his old home. For some time, they also thought that Smaug was observing them from above. They started to go through the short road. Qasim The group rested and also had breakfast. They started their journey again, but the road started to go west. They also reached the hill path. They climbed the mountain in a single file. At the top of the hill, they found a guardroom. In the olden days, when the dwarfs were sovereign, the guards were much more comfortable as they did not have to lookout for the dragon. The group decided that this would be a nice resting place, for the moment. On the hand, Dori was very scared. He only gazed at the mountain, thinking that the dragon was observing them from the top. They rested in the deserted rock-chamber beneath. Some slept, while others unanimously discussed the strange disappearance of Smaug.
