Introduction
Science and Mathematics are two of the major
disciplines taught at Davao Oriental Regional Science High
School (DORSHS). In line with the mission and vision of
DORSHS, the project aims to produce globally-competitive
students in the field of Science and Mathematics through the
use of technology such as robotics. Robotics is the merge of
science and mathematics with the intention of creating a
machine (Daley, S., 2022). Thus, it demands the use of
critical thinking, problem-solving skills, as well as a solid
foundation in science, mathematics, and computer education
(Ryan, 2021).
Project Alphabots is a project initiated by the
School Pro-tech Organization (SPO). The SPO is a
school-based organization of DORSHS comprising of
individuals with a common goal of increasing
technological literacy among the student body.
The project is titled as “Alphabots”; “alpha”
implies to “first”, and “bots” implies to “robot”, meaning
“first robots” – as it is assumed to be the first time the
students will be handling robotics. The said project aims
to provide education to the students of DORSHS on
robotics.
“Robotics and other combinations will
make the world pretty fantastic
compared with today.”
—Bill Gates
Rationale
The lack of knowledge of some students in science and mathematics is one of the
biggest issues the Davao Oriental Regional Science High School is currently dealing
with. According to their grades, it is clear that many pupils are unable to comprehend
the two core disciplines taught at the aforementioned school. The School Pro-tech
Organization (SPO) became aware of this issue because the advocates wanted to give
students an education in the fields of science and mathematics. Science and
mathematics are two of the main subjects taught at Davao Oriental Regional Science
High School (DORSHS). The project's goal is to use technology like robotics to create
students who are globally competitive in the study of science and mathematics, in
keeping with the mission and vision of DORSHS. With the goal of building a machine,
robotics combines science and mathematics. Thus, it demands the use of critical
thinking, problem-solving skills, as well as a solid foundation in science, mathematics,
and computer education.
Objectives

In line with the mission and vision of DORSHS the

project aims to:

(1) to introduce students to the fundamentals of using (2) to train students for them to be able to demonstrate
Arduino set in robotics, the application of Arduino sets in robotics.
Methodology
The locale for this project will be at the DORSHS Computer
Laboratory. This project will be conducted in a span of 3 weeks,
with the assistance of Ma’am Haidee M. Siason, the DORSHS ICT
Coordinator and Mr. Neilwin Guiguitin, who is an alumnus of
DORSHS, with a deep interest and significant practice in
robotics.
The participants of this project will be 24 selected students
from different grade level of DORSHS. The selection will be done
through application, the applicants will be screened through a
written examination and interview. The examination will test the
applicant’s logic, critical thinking skills, and background
knowledge in the field of science, mathematics, and computers.
In addition, the interview will test the applicant’s ability to
express.
During the training phase, the 24
selected participants will be divided into four
groups. Each group will be provided with one
Arduino set. This phase of the project will be a
week-long training session that will be conducted
on December 19 to 23. During this week, the
fundamentals of robotics will be covered in depth.
In the following weeks, will be the conduct of
post-activities, this is where the students are
expected to demonstrate the applications of
robotics through the return demonstration and
showcase of designs and executions.
After the project, the Arduino sets will
be donated to the Computer Laboratory
Anticipated
Outcome
 learning
Aside from the students of DORSHS
the basic fundamentals of
robotics, the project also expects students
to develop an interest in robotics and
continue learning after the project is over.
Timeline
Evaluation The success of the project will be evaluated through
a post-test and a survey. This is to determine whether or
not the objectives are met. A pre-test will be administered
before the participants engage in the undertaking of the
activities of the project. After the conduct of the project, the
participants will answer the post-test to determine if the
participants have gained knowledge. Furthermore, the
survey will determine if the interests of the participants
have increased and their skills in robotics are enhanced.
The survey will also determine the degree of satisfaction or
dissatisfaction of the participants in undertaking the
activities of the project, and seek suggestions from the
participants on how the conduct of the project can be
improved aside from knowing the factors that makes it
difficult for the participants to undertake the activities
