INVESTIGATING THE EFFECT OF

DIFFERENT PLASTICIZERS ON POLY(N-

VINYL-2-PYRROLIDONE) HYDROGELS

STUDENT NAME
INTRODUCTION
The aim of the experiment was to determine the effect of
poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG) and glycerol as plasticizers on
hydrogel membranes synthesized from poly(N-vinyl-2-
pyrrolidone)(PVP) in aqueous polymeric solutions.

The influence of plasticizer loading on shear flow behaviour of PVP. Fig 1 and 2 illustrates
the the flow curves of PVP without plasctizer loading and with varying plascticizers loading.
The figures revealed that PVP with plasticizer loading of 1g Glycerol and 1g PEG had higher
viscosity of 181.15 and 106.46. however, it decreases with increasing shear rate exhibiting
shear thinning behaviour and the difference in viscosity reduced for all formulations at the
high shear rate region
