CONCENTRATION
CIIMATE :
In Santa Monica, the summers are warm, arid,
and clear and the winters are long, cool, wet,
and partly cloudy. Over the course of the year,
the temperature typically varies from 49°F to
76°F and is rarely below 43°F or above 84°F

FORM DEVELOPMENT
RECTANGLE

FUNCTION :
A dynamic overlap of retail, pedestrians, bikers,
motorists(car parking , landscaping, and opportunities to
sit and rest
Ground floor retail space.
A protected bicycle storage (90 bikes)
Thirty electric car charging stations.
Nineteen motorcycle spaces
Storage and office space for the Downtown
Farmer’s market.
A solid waste/recycling area

CONCEPT :
The new parking structure would replace an
existing parking structure and would provide
parking for existing and future uses
SPECIAL FEATURES : A diagonal staircase
that crosses the front of the building
ZONING:
Three to five stories on the east side
Two and four stories on the west side
containing a mix of uses including retail, office,
restaurants, transitional housing and hotels.

TECHNICAL DETAILS :
FLOOR PLANE:
The garage has eight above-ground and three
subterranean levels.
It boasts 750 parking spaces, over 650 square
meters of retail space, storage facilities for a
local farmers market, as well as 90 bicycle racks
and 19 motorcycle

FACADE : Patrons cascade up and down the


exterior stair, weaving in and out of the plane of
the façade.

CONCEPT :constructive
conception from a prefabricated
concrete structure or
standardized materials that close
the building: aluminum and
polycarbonate.

FORM :The volume is in a rectangular parcel.


FUNCTION : two overlapping orders,
1)The first is an opaque plinth with human scale
2)a big bench in the buses dock, with
occasional openings for access of vehicles a
people.
The upper order, with an aluminum façade, is a
large prism which cantilevers above the bus
dock creating a waiting shelter with a
translucent blue skylight
DESIGN CHALLENGE :the building could
ventilate naturally avoiding CO2 extraction

Technologies (NETs) use in this building.
