Possible meanings of the word “Critical”


 someone or something to “disapprove it” or to have a negative
response to that person or thing.
 very important
ex. The information drive about the different kinds of vaccine is critical to the people.
 serious
ex. The flooding situations in some areas has reached a critical point.

 critical Condition (things are not looking good)


ex. My grandfather is in critical condition right now.

- the process in which the information from the text and the
knowledge possessed by the reader get together to produce meaning.

What is Critical Reading?


 an academic skill.
 a careful, thorough, thoughtful and active reading strategy.
 a process of analyzing, interpreting and, sometimes, evaluating.
 tells the reader what the text does and what it means.

6 STAGES OF CRITICAL READING


1.Previewing – gathering as much information about the text as you can before you
read it.
2.Annotating – jotting down notes in the text as you read it. Can be done along the
margins of the texts or even within the text itself.
3.Summarizing – shortening the text read to test comprehension.
4.Analyzing – breaking the text down into its parts.
5.Re-reading – reading the text several times to make as much meaning as possible.
6.Responding – reacting to what you have read.

What is Reasoning?
- logical thinking
- a thinking that all has reason as in cause and effect, pattern, etc.
- reasoning is an act of giving statements for justification and explanation. It is the
ability of someone to defend something by giving out reasons justifying a stand
based on prior and existing knowledge and experiences needed to arrive at a
decision.
- the process of expressing ideas and opinions as well as justifying a stand based on
prior and existing knowledge and experiences needed to arrive at a decision.

ACTIVITY #2: CONVINCE ME

Task:
 The teacher will provide 3 sets of situations wherein all groups will
take turns to be the judge and to be the participant.
 For every situation, each group will only be given five minutes to
brainstorms and read some sources.
 After brainstorming, one speaker will be allowed to convince the
judges by giving their own reasons.
 After all the speakers have given their reasons, the judge will give their
judgement based on the materials and the reasons presented by each
group
ACTIVITY #2: CONVINCE ME

1. What did you feel while doing the activity?


2. (For Participants) How did you come up with those kinds of reasons?
3. (For Judges) How were you able to make sound judgement?

Directions: Write your own paragraph with 5-8 sentences. You can have the
working title, “ The Effectivity of Face to Face Classes in My Education”
You can provide facts, opinions, perspectives, experiences, and even
arguments. You can also state some reasons if any.
