Perks of being a Starbucks Employee
HEALTH AND DENTAL INSURANCE : Starbucks has a few perks for working at its stores. .As
anyone knows, having health insurance can be the difference between bankruptcy and living a healthy
life. Health insurance can cover expensive medical costs. Another perk is the fact that you also get
dental insurance from them. Dental insurance is ideal since it allows employees to get more regular
check-ups on their dental health.
TUTION COVERAGE :They cover 100% of your tuition but they only cover 100% tuition from
Arizona State University while your course is online or offline. Another thing is that they cover for
only first bachelors degree.
PARENTAL LEAVE :Many employers tend to only give their employees a week or two of paid leave
after becoming a new parent. Starbucks supports its employees by giving them a longer time to adjust
to being a new parent. When a newborn joins your household, it doesn’t matter to them if it was a
natural birth, adoption, or a new foster care child, they’re willing to give you paid parental leave.

Controversies
Market strategy :Some of the market strategies Starbucks uses to maintain its dominant
position in the market have been called anti-competitive by critics.
Example :Starbucks used its financial strength to acquire prime locations by buying out the
leases of its competitors.
Employee disputes :In November 2005, about 2,000 Starbucks workers in New Zealand
went on strike. The group wanted the company to improve its youth rates and provide secure
hours.
In 2005, Starbucks settled an employment lawsuit with eight workers at its Kent,
Washington, roasting plant. The employees said they were retaliated against for
supporting the union.
Starbucks is also accused of tax avoidance by using many loop holes in different country.
