QUESTIONING SKILLS
PURPOSE OF QUESTIONING SKILLS:
To increase the students’ participation in their teaching-learning
interaction.

To arouse the students’ interest and their


curiosity in the topic they are learning
To develop the students’ active way of thinking
and learning

To guide the students in the process of finding


a good and correct answer
To help the students concentrate on the topic
under discussion.

Teacher

To give hints to the pupils and helps him to
answer himself

This technique is used when pupil responses


are- I do not know, or do not respond

The teacher does not discourage pupil for his

Seeking further information technique
If the initial response of a pupil of a pupil is either
incomplete or partially correct, then the teacher helps
the pupil to clarify , elaborate or explain his initial
response to expected level.

Ask the pupil to supply the additional information

Refocusing technique

This technique is generally


used when the pupil gives a
correct response.

This technique consists of enabling the pupil to


view his response in relation to other similar
situations.

Redirection technique

Putting or directing the same question to several pupils


for response.
Increasing Critical Awareness technique

This technique involves asking HOW and WHY of a


completely correct or expected response.
