Activities which have been done to maintain

patient satisfaction in the Debark hospital


Activity one

• 1/ Staffs orientation was conducted on the


issues of the Ethiopian hospital quality alliance
aims & objectives.
• 2/ which task will be expected as an individual
& as a group was discussed & come to
consensus to maintain patient satisfaction by
providing a high quality of health care.
Activity two

• Problem identification & action plan

The problems were identified :-
• 1/ by involving the hospital staffs the
problems were selected. These are
• A/ Delaying of lab& x- ray result
• B/ medical doctors & nurses were not
available at OPD on time
• C/ frequent interruption of electricity

• D/ UN availability of lab reagent
• E/ increases of patients waiting time
• G/ sometimes patient’s card were lost
• H/ absence of common goal among some hospital
staff
• J/ sometimes pharmacist were not available at their
respective dispensing unit
• K/ not all hospital staff have similar information
about the hospital over all activities to advocate &
convincing the community during un necessary
complain & negative image manifested by the

• The above mentioned problems were some of
the problem which is identified by the hospital
staff during our discussion. So we are going to
develop action plan by selecting the main
problem which contributing to solve other
problem at the same time.

• Frequent interruption of electricity

the hospital activities in a sustainable manner

1. People
• No adequate electrician to assign during night time
to on the generator during interruption of electricity
as the hospital has only one electrician was assigned.

Hired additional electrician and assigned during night
time
2. Process
Requested budget & allocated by governing board
The generator has no automatic restart during
interruption of electricity

 Maintained the backup generator
 Purchased additional generator
3. Environment
Un able to get spare part in the local market for the
generator.
No potential generator vender in our zone even the
region

Purchased generator spare parts by collaborated with
regional health bureau from Addis Ababa
Best practices
 Assigned two fulltime ware house worker
 Organized dispensary unit at emergency , inpatient, labor
& delivery & at OPD level
 Obtained all essential drugs , medical equipment & reagent
by communicated with PFSA and purchased from Bahrdar&
Addis Ababa.
 Expired drugs were reduced to 2%
 Constructed 2modern incinerator by collaborated with
NGOS signed agreement with the NGO to construct
warehouse.
 Allocated budget for construction of additional blocks
Health development army
• 24 1to5& 11 HAD Team
• Prepared health development army plan
• Orientation was given for team leaders and
the staff
• After reaching the consensus with 1to 5 and
team leaders developed their own plan
• One to five team conduct their discussion on
Wednesday every week.

• Every month on 30 of the month general
discussion is conducted
• Feed back is provided based on the evaluation
Results were achieved After HAD organized

 Rent seeking areas of the areas were


identified at each department
 Problems were identified in drugs utilization’
handling and distribution.
 Transparency was created in training selection
and management.
 Sense of ownership was created.
