Mark 4:35-41
Liturgist: That day when
evening came, he said
to his disciples, “Let us
go over to the other
side.”
Congregation: Leaving the
crowd behind, they took
him along, just as he was,
in the boat. There were
also other boats with him.
Liturgist: A furious squall
came up, and the waves
broke over the boat, so
that it was nearly
swamped.
Congregation: Jesus was in
the stern, sleeping on a
cushion. The disciples woke
him and said to him,
“Teacher, don’t you care if
we drown?”
Liturgist: He got up,
rebuked the wind and said
to the waves, “Quiet! Be
still!” Then the wind died
down and it was
completely calm.
Congregation: He said to
his disciples, “Why are you
so afraid? Do you still have
no faith?”
All: They were terrified
and asked each other,
“Who is this? Even the
wind and the waves obey
him!”
Second Reading
Hebrews 12:1-3

Therefore, since we are
surrounded by such a great cloud
of witnesses, let us throw off
everything that hinders and the
sin that so easily entangles. And
let us run with perseverance the
race marked out for us,

fixing our eyes on Jesus, the
pioneer and perfecter of faith.
For the joy set before him he
endured the cross, scorning its
shame, and sat down at the right
hand of the throne of God.

Consider him who endured
such opposition from sinners,
so that you will not grow
weary and lose heart.
