WHAT IS THIS PROJECT ABOUT?

Every year the students of grade VIII of Dawood Public


School present their interpretation and understanding of
Macbeth through this project which is multi dimensional.
Students act, paint, sing, write and present different aspects of
the play for the visitors and audience. This year the pattern is
a bit improvised and that’s why it needed a proper elaboration
for the students.
CATEGORIES OF
PARTICIPATION

• Mandatory Integrated Discipline:


Every student has to participate in this discipline and there is no matter of
choice.

• Optional Disciplines:
Students can choose something of their interest from a range of
performance areas. Choosing one option is compulsory.
MANDATORY INTEGRATED
DISCIPLINE

This discipline contains following areas of performance and will be


practised in collaboration with relevant departments;
1. Art
During their art classes, students will individually make a visual
representation related to the themes, characterization, still imagery,
mosaic art etc. from the play. It will be a marked assignment for
monthly test of Arts and will also serve the purpose of individual
mandatory participation in Macbeth Project.

2. Literature
Students will learn to write poetry in iambic pentameter and every
student will be required to compose a 5-6 line stanza using this meter
on any of the given topics related to the play. Topics are as under.
• Shakespeare: They can complement Shakespeare's style and art and
his contribution to English language using the words he invented in
their stanzas.
• Macbeth & Lady Macbeth: The strength of their relationship as
spouses, their character traits or their guilt and remorse after killing
King Duncan can be the subject of the stanzas.

2. Literature (Continued)
• The Witches: Their role in the play can be discussed or spells and
charms can be written for them.
• The Internal Conflict of the Protagonist: His inability to stand with
his decisions, his confusion, regret, dilemma or his kindness and
conscience can be the topic.
• Themes: Any of the themes i.e. Ambition, Appearances vs Reality,
Fate, Nature vs Supernatural, Femininity vs Masculinity can be
composed in stanzas.
Then in groups students will compile any of the following forms of
poems using their stanzas;
Sonnet, Ballad, Blank Verse, Rhymed Verse.

3. Language:
Students will be taught informal writing/ profile
writing/event description in their language classes as
usual and they will be required to write a
composition in the studied form in their monthly
tests but that question will be relevant to Macbeth.
OPTIONAL DISCIPLINE

This discipline contains following areas of performance and every


students must choose any ONE from these areas to ensure the
participation in the project.
1. Music
The best selected poems from the Iambic Pentameter activity will
get their musical composition made by the music team and will be
sung by the selected students. This will be based on the talent of the
students.
The spells or narration of characterization can also be used for
performance.

2. Theater Performance
As an improvised version of the play Macbeth of around 45-
60 minutes duration will be performed so the students having
talent of acting can participate in this discipline.
Note: Auditions will be taken for required roles in this same
unit on coming Tuesday.

3. Model Making
Students withe architectural skills can sign up for this project
to prepare and display any of the following models;
• The Globe Theater
• Inverness, Macbeth’s Castle
• Birhagim Woods
• Forres, the Royal Castle

4. Presentation
Students with public speaking skills can opt for presenting
any of the following topics to the audience of the play. They
can prepare 1.5-2 minutes presentation and can arrange basic
props as well.
• Life of Shakespeare
• The Renaissance Period
• The Jacobean Era and the witchcraft beliefs
• The background of the play

5. Newspaper Publishing
Some innovative students can become journalists and prepare any
two of the following newspaper publishing.
• Obituary Writing for announcing any character’s death
• Newspaper article analyzing political situation after Duncan’s
death.
• Job Vacancy advertisements by Macbeth for hiring his new
council
• Headlines on Lady Macbeth’s Death
THE BIG DAY

The tentative date for presenting this project is Monday, 26-


02-24.
The activity will be divided into two sessions.
• In first half all the students work will be displayed and will
be opened for the visitors and audience.
• In 2nd half the play will be staged.
