REVELATION OF

THE CROSS
 Objective: help everyone understand
the benefits and have a genuine
experience at the cross.
 REVELATION – discovery of something
that has already been there
 we get it and understand it
 Yesterday Morning, We go TO the
cross… now, we will go THROUGH the
cross
 Philippians 2:5-8
 5 Your attitude should be the same that
Christ Jesus had.
 6 Though he was God, he did not demand
and cling to his rights as God.
 7 He made himself nothing; he took the
humble position of a slave and appeared in
human form.
 8 And in human form he obediently
humbled himself even further by dying a
criminal's death on a cross.
 WHY DO WE NEED TO SEE THE
CROSS?
 Romans 6:5 For if we have been
united together in the likeness of
His death, certainly we also shall be
in the likeness of His resurrection,
 Jesus wants us to be united
with Him, in His death, so that
we will be united also with Him
in resurrection power.
 We need to die with Him,
so we can live in His
resurrection power.
 We need to be

supernaturally taken to
the place of crucifixion.
 CAN THAT HAPPEN? YES!

IN THIS ENCOUNTER!
 Psalm 22:1-2 NIV
 My God, my God, why have you
forsaken me?
 Why are you so far from saving me,
 so far from the words of my
groaning?
 O my God, I cry out by day, but you
do not answer,
 by night, and am not silent.
 Psa 22:19-21 NIV
 But you, O Lord, be not far off;
 O my Strength, come quickly to help
me.
 Deliver my life from the sword,
 my precious life from the power of the
dogs.
 Rescue me from the mouth of the
lions;
 save me from the horns of the wild
 2 Tim 2:11-12 Here is a trustworthy
saying:
 If we died with him,
 we will also live with him;
 2Ti 2:12
 if we endure,
 we will also reign with him.
 If we disown him,
 he will also disown us;
 Zech 12:10 “And I will pour out on the
house of David and the inhabitants of
Jerusalem a spirit of grace and
supplication. They will look on ME, the
one they have pierced, and they will
mourn for Him as one mourns for an
only child, and grieve bitterly for Him as
one grieves for a firstborn son.
 Imagine the pain of losing your only
son… taken away.
 Jesus was taken away to be crucified for
us.
 WHY DO WE NEED THE CROSS?
Because of our state…
 Isa 53:6 All of us have strayed away
like sheep. We have left God's paths to
follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him
the guilt and sins of us all.
 Isaiah gives us the state where we
are… sick, lonely, sinful, rebellious,
ashamed… But that is not the state
that God wants for us. He wants us
to be in PARADISE – no shame, no
guilt, no depression, there is
intimacy with God.
 ILLUS: Paradise – place that is ideal
and suitable for us.
 Man’s first day is rest day. That is how
God designed it for us. It’s not work &
work, then, rest. Rather, it is rest first
THEN, you will be able to do work
because of the strength that He gives.
 IN PARADISE: Provision (tree with
fruit-bearing seed), peace, harmony,
intimacy with God, unity, passion, etc.
 The tree as the exit point.
 OUTSIDE OF PARADISE: frustration,
poverty, loneliness, hurts, pain, etc.
 We’re sick of that life outside
Paradise!
 There is a wall between us and
Paradise, because of sin.
 Another tree as the way back to
Paradise. That tree is the cross. Gal
3:13
 Be desperate and determined to go
back to Paradise!!!
 Isa 52:14 (NLT) Many were
amazed when they saw him*--
beaten and bloodied, so
disfigured one would scarcely
know he was a person.
 Marami ang nagitla, nang Siya
ay Makita; Dahil sa
pagkabugbog sa kanya’y halos
di makilala kung Siya’y tao pa…
 Isa 53:2 (NLT) My servant
grew up in the LORD's
presence like a tender green
shoot, sprouting from a root
in dry and sterile ground.
There was nothing beautiful
or majestic about his
appearance, nothing to
attract us to him.
 Isa 53:5 (NIV) But he was pierced for our
transgressions, he was crushed for our
iniquities; the punishment that brought us
peace was upon him, and by his wounds we
are healed.
 Jesus was in deep pain and
woundedness… Not in an ordinary way,
but in an extraordinary way… far
beyond what any man who had lived
has ever witnessed…
 DESCRIPTION: buong katawan, puno ng
dugo, ang katawan, wasak at hindi na
makilala kung tao pa…
 What are those pain & sacrifice for??
What has the cross really done for us?

III. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE CROSS

A. CROSS: THE CANCELED CURSE
 The cross is where God took all the curse
that is upon us, so He can give us His
blessings.
 Galatians 2:20 NIV I have been crucified with
Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in
me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith
in the Son of God, who loved me and gave
himself for me.
 Galatians 3:13 NIV Christ
redeemed us from the curse of the
law by becoming a curse for us, for
it is written: “Cursed is everyone
who is hung on a tree.”*
 The cross is the place of curse for a
Jew. When Jesus was there, all the
curses were placed upon Him, so
He can cancel them and we can be
redeemed. So that instead of curse,
our life will be blessed!
B. CROWN OF THORNS:
FREEDOM FROM RUIN &
OPPRESSION
Flexible branches covered with

long thorns (commonly used in

bundles for firewood) are plaited
into the shape of a crown and this
is pressed into His scalp. Again
there is copious bleeding, the
scalp being one of the most
vascular areas of the body.
 Genesis 3:17-18 NIV To Adam he
said, “Because you listened to your
wife and ate from the tree about
which I commanded you, ‘You must
not eat of it,’ “Cursed is the ground
because of you; through painful toil
you will eat of it all the days of your
life. It will produce thorns and thistles
for you, and you will eat the plants of
the field.
 THORNS = RUIN = PESTE; hindi
makabangon or makaahon sa
kahirapan
 Work is part of Paradise. They
work and get much!!
 But outside Paradise, you work so
hard, yet still earn so little,
because of the thorns.
 The blood that came from Jesus’
head touched the ground and
broke the curse on the ground. The
ground is not anymore cursed. The
 It is a crown --- talks about
mindset. The ground is not
anymore cursed, but why is there
still poverty? Poverty is not the
problem of the land, neither the
problem of the wallet, but the
problem of the mindset.
 So, when we are crucified with
Christ, we will let His blood wash
away our mind so we will break
free from the mindset of poverty.
“I can be fruitful!” “I can earn a
lot!” “I can pay all my debts!”
C. WHIPS ON HIS BACK: FOR OUR
HEALING
Dr Truman Davis: Preparations for
the scourging were carried out when
the Prisoner was stripped of His
clothing and His hands tied to a post
above His head. It is doubtful the
Romans would have made any
attempt to follow the Jewish law in
this matter, but the Jews had an
ancient law prohibiting more than
forty lashes.
 The Roman legionnaire steps
forward with the flagrum (or
flagellum) in his hand. This is a
short whip consisting of several
heavy, leather thongs with two
small balls of lead attached near
the ends of each. The heavy
whip is brought down with full
force again and again across
Jesus' shoulders, back, and legs.
 At first the thongs cut through
the skin only. Then, as the blows
continue, they cut deeper into
the subcutaneous tissues,
producing first an oozing of
blood from the capillaries and
veins of the skin, and finally
spurting arterial bleeding from
vessels in the underlying
muscles.
 The small balls of lead first produce
large, deep bruises which are
broken open by subsequent blows.
Finally the skin of the back is
hanging in long ribbons and the
entire area is an unrecognizable
mass of torn, bleeding tissue. When
it is determined by the centurion in
charge that the prisoner is near
death, the beating is finally
stopped.
 ILLUS: one whip creates 9 wounds,
each wound requires 21 stitches to
be closed.
 39 x 9 x 21 = 7371 stitches
 Isa 53:5 NIV But he was pierced
for our transgressions, he was
crushed for our iniquities; the
punishment that brought us peace
was upon him, and by his wounds
we are healed.
 The blood that came out
of Jesus’ body because of
the every whip He
received is for our
healing.
 No sickness is difficult for

Him to heal – physically

and emotionally.
 39 lashes for 39 classes
D. NAILS: OUR FREEDOM
The nails that were used were long, thick
and square…
The left foot is now pressed backward
against the right foot, and with both feet
extended, toes down, a nail is driven
through the arch of each, leaving the
knees moderately flexed. The Victim is
now crucified. As He slowly sags down
with more weight on the nails in the
wrists excruciating pain shoots along the
fingers and up the arms to explode in the
brain --
 the nails in the writs are putting
pressure on the median nerves.
As He pushes Himself upward to
avoid this stretching torment, He
places His full weight on the nail
through His feet. Again there is
the searing agony of the nail
tearing through the nerves
between the metatarsal bones
of the feet.
 Nail #1: Freedom from guilt
 John 5:24 NIV “I tell you the truth,
whoever hears my word and believes
him who sent me has eternal life and
will not be condemned; he has
crossed over from death to life.
 Romans 8:1 NKJV There is
therefore now no condemnation to
those who are in Christ Jesus, who do
not walk according to the flesh, but
according to the Spirit.
 Isa 53:6 NLT All of us have strayed
away like sheep. We have left God's
paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord
laid on him the guilt and sins of us all.
 We are forgiven and at the same
time, He removes all the guilt and
the shame of all our sins. By the
blood of Jesus on His hands, we can
be cleansed from all the shame of
our sins.
 Jesus does not want you to walk in
shame.
 Nail #2: Canceled accusations &
arguments
 Colossians 2:14 NIV having
canceled the written code, with its
regulations, that was against us and
that stood opposed to us; he took it
away, nailing it to the cross.
 Colossians 2:14 NLT He canceled
the record that contained the
charges against us. He took it and
destroyed it by nailing it to Christ's
cross.
 What was canceled?
 CHARGES AGAINST US; RECORD OF
DEBT; LISTAHAN NG UTANG OR
ATRASO; Legal right given to the
devil.
 ILLUS: Christian, preacher, devil
(holding documents against us), God
 ILLUS: listahan ng utang sa tindahan

binayaran ni Jesus – ni hindi mo na

kelangan mahiya, magtago at
tumakbo!!
 ILLUS: Jesus shows His nail-pierced

hand before the face of the devil…

 God does not keep
arguments against you.
God does not have
negative thoughts about
you.
 John 5:45 "Do not think
that I will accuse you
before the Father;
 God has a clear and
positive concept about
 Nail #3 (nail of torture): Victory
over oppression
 Nail was hammered into the heel
under the ankle. The executioners
pound the nail on this area so it can
pierce through both feet.
 In order to breathe, Jesus had to
place His weight on the nail and
push Himself up so that He could
inhale, because His chest was
extremely oppressed.
 This effort causes intense
pain to the tendons. Simply
breathing was agonizing for
Him.
 But His suffering provided

total victory for us and we

no longer need to live in
oppression – the enemy
pushing you down.
E. SPEAR: INNER HEALING
Dr Truman Davis: John 19:34 "And
immediately there came out blood and
water." That is, there was an escape of
water fluid from the sac surrounding
the heart, giving postmortem evidence
that Our Lord died not the usual
crucifixion death by suffocation, but of
heart failure (a broken heart) due to
shock and constriction of the heart by
fluid in the pericardium
 After Jesus gave up the spirit, He was
pierced in His side, and blood and water
came out. This is the condition that
happens to a person in deep agony…
the heart exploded!
 Jesus died with a broken heart so you
can have your heart healed.
 You may have said many times that
your heart is broken. But God is saying
“his heart exploded so that our hearts
can be healed and our emotions
restored.”
 Our lives can be changed through the
revelation of the cross. So, let’s give our all
to Jesus, and let’s receive the revelation of
the cross.

IV. WHAT THE BLOOD ACCOMPLISHES

 Leviticus 16:14 NKJV He shall take some
of the blood of the bull and sprinkle it with
his finger on the mercy seat on the east
side; and before the mercy seat he shall
sprinkle some of the blood with his finger
seven times.
 This is a foreshadowing of the
7 times that Jesus would shed
His blood.
 Garden of Gethsemane: Under
great emotional stress of the
kind our Lord suffered, tiny
capillaries in the sweat glands
can break, thus mixing blood
with sweat. This process might
well have produced marked
weakness and possible shock. –
Dr. Truman Davis
 Hebrews 9:22 In fact, we can
say that according to the law of
Moses, nearly everything was
purified by sprinkling with
blood. Without the shedding of
blood, there is no forgiveness of
sins.
 Just one drop of Jesus’ blood
has power to cleanse the
darkest sin!
 CLOSING
 Galatians 2:20 I have been
crucified with Christ and I no longer
live, but Christ lives in me. The life I
live in the body, I live by faith in the
Son of God, who loved me and gave
himself for me.
 ILLUS: God at the other side of
Paradise… people living outside of
Paradise… Jesus sends His Son to
die on the cross.
 [HAVE THE PERSON KNEEL
IN FRONT OF THE CROSS.]
Many people kneel before
the cross and admire the
cross. But that is not
enough! We need to go to
the cross AND THROUGH
THE CROSS.
 [HAVE THE PERSON BE
CRUCIFIED SIDE BY
SIDE WITH JESUS.] To
be crucified with Christ
is not side by side, but
face to face
 [HAVE THE PERSON COME FACE
TO FACE WITH JESUS]… to feel
everything that He went
through and to be able to
receive the effect of the cross
on our life…
 Our head upon His head, our
hands upon His hands, our feet
upon His feet, our heart upon
His heart…
 But it does not stop there… we
pass through the cross and we
get back to Paradise and be
united to God.
 Leave the robe/jacket on the
cross. SO, when you look back
at the cross, you see your old
life crucified. You are detached
from your past! Your past ENDS
at the cross.
 ACTION: Be crucified with
Jesus… see His eyes with pain
and agony… not eyes of
condemnation, but eyes of
suffering for your forgiveness…
Place upon Him all your sin…
TAKE ONE STEP FORWARD SO
YOU CAN ENTER BACK TO
PARADISE… Bring hands down.
 Turn around and you will
see the cross reminding
you that your old man has
died… you are detached
from your past anymore.
Your old person, pain of
childhood, sin, depression,
etc is left on the cross.
 1Pe 1:18 For you know that God
paid a ransom to save you from
the empty life you inherited
from your ancestors. And the
ransom he paid was not mere
gold or silver.
 1Pe 1:19 He paid for you with
the precious lifeblood of Christ,
the sinless, spotless Lamb of
God.
 1Pe 1:20 God chose him
for this purpose long
before the world began,
but now in these final
days, he was sent to the
earth for all to see. And he
did this for you.
 ILLUS: The torn
veil [3 inches
thick]
 When Jesus
shouted “IT IS
FINISHED”.
