Preparing for the Labs

Your lab activities will be centered around a fictitious company

that we’ll call A. Datum Corporation.

By working through the labs, you will learn how to design and
implement a server infrastructure.

To complete the labs, you will work in a virtual machine

environment.

15
Virtual Machine Environment
Virtual machine name: Use as:

A domain controller running Windows Server® 2012

20413C-LON-DC1/-B
R2 in the Adatum.com domain.
A member server running Windows Server 2012 R2 in
20413C-LON-SVR1
the Adatum.com domain.
A member server running Windows Server 2012 R2 in
20413C-LON-SVR2
the Adatum.com domain.
A blank virtual machine on which you will install
20413C-LON-SVR3
Windows Server 2012 R2.
A member server running Windows Server 2012 R2 in
20413C-LON-SVR4 the Adatum.com domain. This server is located on a
second subnet.
A router that is used for network activities requiring a
20413C-LON-RTR
separate subnet.

16
Virtual Machine Environment (continued)
Virtual machine name: Use as:

A boot-to-VHD Windows 2012 R2 host machine that is

20413C-LON-Host1
used for the Virtual Machine Manager lab.

20413C-LON-VMM1 A server with Virtual Machine Manager deployed.

A domain controller running Windows Server 2012 R2

in the Treyresearch.net domain. This server is used in a
20413C-TREY-DC1
variety of labs, principally those where multiple
domains are required.
A stand-alone server running Windows Server 2012
R2 that you will use for joining domains and initial
20413C-CON-SVR
configuration. It is part of the Contoso Ltd
organization.
Client computers running Windows® 8.1 and
20413C-LON-CL1 Microsoft® Office 2013 in the Adatum.com domain.
20413C-LON-CL2 You will use these computers primarily to test server
configurations. 17
Demonstration: Using Microsoft Labs Online
(Optional)
In this demonstration, you will learn how to:
• Access the Microsoft Labs Online lab environment
• Carefully read the Lab Notes because some
procedures related to on-premises versus online labs
may be different and have slightly different steps. Any
differences will be called out in the Lab Notes.
• Switch between virtual machines
Demonstration: Using Hyper-V Manager
(Optional)
In this demonstration, you will learn how to:
• Open Hyper-V Manager
• Navigate the various sections/panes within Hyper-V Manager:
• Virtual machines, snapshots, and actions: server-specific and
virtual machines-specific
• Identify the virtual machines used in the labs for this course
• Take a snapshot and apply a snapshot
• Connect to a virtual machine
• Start and sign in to a virtual machine
• Switch between full screen and window modes
• Revert to the previous snapshot
• Shut down a virtual machine
• When to use shut down or turn off
• Close Hyper-V Manager
