SPECIAL SURFING (Market Study)
• Board price: 600 euros.
• Winter Needs: 640 No.
• Summer: 700 No. (9% ↑)
• Wholesalers: 100 /year
Santa Beach • For next year, a 35% growth is expected in both seasons. In the year after, the growth will probably
market weaken slightly. However, a growth of 18% is expected here.
Prediction • Highest Summer sales: April & September
Wholesalers • Buy products in larger quantities and sell them under a different brand name on neighbouring
buyers islands.
• Increase in domestic sales and development of additional sales potentials. Wholesaler takes over the
sales and the marketing completely so that there are no further costs for the surfboard manufacturers
Consumer • Surfboard buyers research and compare surfboards online, they only buy their boards from online
purchasing retailers in the region. They usually know the manufacturers personally.
behavior • Location within the region doesn’t affect the purchasing behavior. Thus, it does not matter how far
the production site is from the beach.
Potential market entrants High Sales
Medium Sales
• Consumers want to have more choices.
• This refers, to the number of surfboard production. Low Sales
PRO SURF
DESIGN OF SURFBOARD
Boards are travelled across the waves rather than along the face
SPEED:
Where and How?
Where: Gravity & Thrust force (3rd Law)
• Water hits perpendicular to the face of board and directed along the
length of board. For every liter of water we redirect , we get 3 pounds of
lift and thrust causing it to travel faster across the water.
2 Lift + Thrust = Speed
STABILITY
• Depends on Renolds Number: Predicts the flow pattern
• Stickiness of the water
• Tighter the radius -> lower the stability and higher the turning efforts
VOLUME:
• Determines the Buoyancy effect.
• Low Volume = low Buoyancy = board below water level
• Higher Volume = Greater the Buoyancy = Board above the water level = fast paddling = early wave catch
