DISAPPEARANCE & DEATH OF SINN SISAMOUTH

 Sinn Sisamouth disappeared at the beginning of the


Cambodian Genocide and his exact fate has never been
confirmed, though it is speculated that due to his massive
popularity as a singer in the country, he was likely
targeted for execution immediately. Sisamouth certainly
died during the genocide and his remains have never been
recovered.

 Sinn Sisamouth was a major influence to the Cambodian music scene, having propelled into a golden age of
experimentation and innovation. Often called the "King of Khmer music," "the Cambodian Elvis," or the "golden
voice," his lasting cultural impact is difficult to overstate, though hundreds of his songs have been lost as a result of
the genocide, his surviving ones continue to be listened to in the present day.
