PHYSICS PROJECT THE

STRUCTURE OF THE EARTH AND

HOW IT CAME INTO EXISTENCE
MADE BY – AGNEY DHANAPUNE GRADE – 8th A
Before learning about earth’s structure you
should know what is earth, facts and history of
earth ?
What is Earth ? Facts about Earth
 Facts – 1.) Blue Planet: Earth is
Earth is the third planet from the Sun often referred to as the "Blue
in our solar system and is the only Planet" due to the abundance of
known celestial body to support life. It water that covers approximately

organisms.
History of Earth and some more fact ?

 Fact – 3.) Rotational Axis: Earth rotates on its axis, leading to day and night
cycles. Its axial tilt is responsible for the changing seasons experienced in
different parts of the world throughout the year.
 History – 1.) Formation (4.5 billion years ago): Earth formed from a swirling
disk of gas and dust around the young Sun.
 2.) Quaternary Period (2.6 million years ago - present): Characterized by
ice ages and the development of Homo sapiens, leading to modern human
civilization.
 3.) Hadean Eon (4.5 - 4 billion years ago): A period of intense heat and
frequent impacts, with the formation of the Moon likely occurring during this
time.
What is the Structure of Earth ?
 Ans -
The Earth has a layered structure, consisting of several distinct 4 compositional
and physical layers. From the outermost layer to the innermost, these layers
are:
 Crust:
 The Earth's outermost layer.
 Comprised of solid rock and divided into the continental crust (under continents) and
the oceanic crust (under oceans).
 Relatively thin compared to the other layers.
 Mantle:
 Located beneath the crust.
 Consists of solid rock that can flow slowly over geological timescales, known as
the mantle's semi-fluid or plastic nature.
 Extends to a depth of about 2,900 kilometers (1,800 miles).

 Gravitational Measurements:
 Gravity measurements help scientists infer the distribution of mass within the
Earth.
 Variations in gravitational pull across the Earth's surface indicate differences in
density and composition, supporting the presence of various layers.
 Magnetic Field:
 The Earth's magnetic field is generated in the outer core through a process called
the geodynamo. This process is linked to the movement of molten iron and nickel,
supporting the existence of a liquid outer core.
 Heat Flow:
 Measurements of heat flow from the Earth's interior contribute to our
understanding of temperature variations and the presence of a solid inner
core.
