Would you like to eat halo-halo? What


are the ingredients in making halo-halo?
Look at this basket of fruits. Are these
fruits used in making halo-halo?
1. What are the different fruits found inside the basket?
2. How many fruits are in all in the basket?
3. Out of the total number of fruits in the basket, how many
are apples?
4. Who can write the ratio of apples and other fruits in the
basket?
5. Of all the fruits in the basket, which do you like most?

Activity 1.2 Mix it Up

Materials:
A pitcher with 1 liter of water, 1 sachet of powdered
orange juice, 1/2 cup pulp of apple and ½ cup pulp of
mango (fruit pulp cut into cubes)
Procedure:
•Place 1 liter of water in a pitcher.
•Pour the sachet of powdered orange juice into the pitcher. Stir.
Observe the mixture of water and powdered orange juice.
Record your observation.

Analysis

Let each group present their output. Discuss their

Abstraction

A mixture is a combination of two or more substance where


these substances are not bonded (or joined) to each other
and no chemical reaction occurs between the substances.

In a mixture, the substances that make up the mixture:


 Are not in a fixed ratio
In a mixture, the substances that make up the mixture:
 Are not in a fixed ratio
 Keep their physical properties, and
 Can be separated by mechanical means

In your fruit juice, the water and fruits keep their physical
properties even when mixed with water. You can separate the
pulps of mango by picking them using a spoon or through your
clean hands.
Application
Pick up the picture that shows a mixture. Paste it on the board
under a word “Mixture”. Arrange the pictures of non-mixture on
the chart.
Practical

You have visitors at home. Your mother told you to


prepare home-made cold drinks for them. In the kitchen
you have lemon, mango and sugar. What will you do?
