Carranglan
-In 1666 , early
Augustinian
friars reached
Puncan

-Augustian
found the place
inhabited by
- before 1700 , a
group of christian
Filipinos led by
Cuestas reached the
place .

-the group
established a little
settlement in sitio
- the group
decided to leave
the sitio and
move to the - Eventually the
present poblacion place was called
site , and called Kadanglaan
Dangla by the
Ilocanos
-meanwhile the Augustinian friar
paid periodic visit to the area and
found this new locale.

- before celebrating the mass the


friar asked name of the
settlement.

- the aetas answered in unison


"Kadanglaaan" which friars
mispronounced its name by
saying "Carranglan"

The Origin - Santo NiÑo de
Puncan

- i668 an old man found a wooden box
floating around the creek of their barrio.

02 - he found 1.5 ft image of the child Jesus


and it was brought to the priest

03 - recognized it as the image of the Santo NiÑo


Santo NiÑo de Puncan Quasi
Parish

• - the chapel of the child of Jesus was built and


completed in 1785

• - aetas were captured by the locals of Puncan


to speed up the construction of the chapel

• - the shrine was one of casualties of the 2nd


world war
• - the last remains of the old edifice were
destroyed during the Mount Pinatubo
erruption

• - a new shrine was constructed and it was


soon declared as Quasi Parish under the
