Introduction
• APA citations is divided into two components: in-text
citations and the reference list.

• The reference list appears at the end of the document and


is used as a list of reference.

• The in-text citations uses any resource from the


document, whether it be a paraphrased idea or even a
direct quote from the author(s).

In-text citations
• Writers need to provide proper in-text reference whenever they are using
an idea or quoting something from an article/ document.

• In-text citations are citations of the main body of the text, this can be
either a quote taken directly or a paraphrased statement of the original
quote.

• In-text citations rely on the author’s surname and the article/ document’s
publication date. This can be done in two ways:

– Author’s surname (date of publication) : Connor (2021)


– (Author’s surname, date of publication) : (Connor, 2021)

• Dealing with two or more authors:

– Remember to put the main author first, followed by the other remaining
authors. First author holds a lot of importance in the world of writing.

– (Two authors) Put ‘&’ between the two surnames.

– (Three or more authors) First time citation MUST list down all of the authors,
any subsequent citations only has the first author’s surname followed by et al.
