What is Herpetic Ulcers?
The herpes simplex virus, also known as HSV, is an infection that
causes herpes. Herpes can appear in various parts of the body, most
commonly on the genitals or mouth. There are two types of the herpes
simplex virus.
• HSV-1: primarily causes oral herpes, and is generally responsible for
cold sores and fever blisters around the mouth and on the face.

• HSV-2: primarily causes genital herpes, and is generally responsible


for genital herpes .
Aetiology

• HSV 1can be contacted from general interactions such as: eating from
the same utensils
sharing lip balm
Kissing .
• It’s also possible to get genital herpes from HSV-1 if someone who
performed oral sex had cold sores during that time.
• HSV-2 is contacted through forms of sexual contact with a person who
has HSV-2.
What are Signs and Symptoms of Herpes?

• Symptoms begin within 2 to 20 days after contact with the HSV virus.
The skin becomes painful or it may itch, burn or tingle. Then one or
more blisters appear.
• The blisters open and become sores. The sores turn crusty and heal
slowly over 1 to 2 weeks. By 3 weeks, the sores have completely
healed without leaving a scar.
• Sometimes flue like symptoms, such as swollen glands glands,
headache , body aches and fever also develop.

What are Diagnostic Approach of HSV?
• Blood Culture
• Fluid from the sores
• PCR
Treatment of Antiviral
Antiviral medications
• No current antiviral treatments can eradicate HSV infection, and
treatment of a first oral or genital infection does not prevent chronic
infection of nerves.
• However, during recurrences, antiviral medications such
as acyclovir, valacyclovir, or famciclovir.
Prevention of HSV
• Avoid Oral Sex with some one with sign of HSV
• Use Condoms
