It’s the capital of Great Britain.
There is a big river in London – the Thames. Tower Bridge is a bridge over the Thames. Buckingham Palace Buckingham Palace is the home and the office for the Queen. The Palace has got 775 rooms, its own post office and police station. There is a cinema and a swimming pool, too. The Changing of the Guard is one of the most interesting ceremonies. It starts at 11.30. The Tower of London It is a musem now. It is an old castle. The Tower of London was • a fortress • a palace • a prison • the king’s zoo. It’s the home of the Crown Jewels. It is a museum now. It is an old castle with high walls, high towers, small windows and large gardens. Westminster Abbey Westminster Abbey is a large church in the Gothic style in London. Many kings and queens have been crowned there. There is the Coronation Chair here. The London Eye The London Eye was opened in 2000. It is 135m high. It is a very popular place. Hyde Park It is one of the largest parks in London. There is a Speaker’s Corner there. The park is a place for meetings. Trafalgar Square Trafalgar Square is a big square in the centre of London. It is famous for Nelson’s Column. You can see beautiful fountains and monuments in the square. In December there is a Christmas Tree in the centre of the square. There are 4 bronze lions and 2 beautiful fountains in the square. Madame Tussaud’s Museum It is a wax museum in London. Oxford Street Oxford Street is a famous shopping street. St. Paul’s Cathedral St. Paul’s Cathedral is a church in London. It is 111m high. Sir Christopher Wren designed it. The British Parliament The British Parliament is the oldest in the world. Big Ben Big Ben is a symbol of Great Britain. It is the most famous clock in the world. It is also the biggest bell in the tower. The British Museum The British Museum is one of the oldest museums in the world. There are more than 70 million interesting things in the museum. You can see Egyptian mummies here. Piccadilly Circus It is the busiest place in London. It is also the centre of entertainment. The National Gallery It is an art museum in Trafalgar Square.
