I. INTRODUCTION
(RATIONALE OF
THE STUDY)
Communication is a tool for everyone to be able to relay
messages, feelings, expressions, concerns, etc. The
importance of communication skills continues to increase as
societies move toward more technologically advanced
activities. In fact, it has evolved throughout the years. With
the use of Instant App Messaging, communication has made
easy and convenient especially in the field of Education.

Instant messaging as a communication technology that

enables users to send and receive textual information in real
time and see who is currently available to receive such
information (Cameron and Webster). Such examples include
WhatsApp, Viber, Line, WeChat, Telegram and the most
popular in the Philippines is the Facebook Messenger.
According to a September 2021 survey conducted in the
Philippines, an overwhelming majority of 98 percent of the
country's adult population used Messenger to communicate
with family members and/or close friends. Therefore, it is
not a surprise that even young students use it nowadays.

With the inevitable problems in the Philippines such as the

rising heat index which caused class suspension, students
were in a dilemma on how to answer their modules and
learning tasks while making sure that they don’t lose
communication with their teachers. Instant messaging
provides the ability to send and receive instantaneous text
messages over the internet.
Instant messaging has become one of the most popular app
categories on both PC and smartphone platforms. The
purpose of this study is to investigate how effective is the
platform selection of instant messaging to address learning
concerns of grade 10 students, especially in their academic
performances.

This study further explored how beneficial instant app

messaging is in teacher-student communication. The findings
of this study provide a new perspective for investigating the
intention to continue using a multiplatform application in the
field of education. The results will benefit subsequent studies
in this area and provide guidance for the development of
instant messaging and other social media applications.
II.METHODOLOGY
This section covers the research procedures, data
gathering procedures, statistical treatment,
environment, respondents and instrument used in
the research.
Research Environment
This study took place in Don Andres Soriano National High
School, a public secondary school under the Department of
Education, Division of Toledo. It was located in Don Andres
Soriano, Toledo City, Cebu. The study was done online due
to modular method of learning

Research Respondents
The target respondents of this study were the selected grade
10 students of Don Andres Soriano National High School for
the school year 2023-2024. The research composed of 25
boys and 25 girls, a total of 50 respondents

II.METHODOLOGY
Data Gathering Procedure
The researcher used quantitative survey method of
collecting data wherein the researcher used primary
research for the purposes of answering research question
through online surveys. The researcher gathered numeric
data for most of the questions through numerical scale
questions or ranking questions.
The researcher followed the following procedure:
First, the researcher asked random grade 10 students
through Facebook Messenger if they could answer an
online survey
Second, the researcher sent online the questionnaire for
the respondents in their allotted time
Third, the proper instruction and guidance to the
respondents was done to answer the questions properly.
After that, the researcher collected the questionnaires,
interpreted and analyzed the data gathered from the
respondents 8

III. RESULTS AND
DISCUSSIONS

10
RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS
After the questionnaires were retrieved they were converted into a
quantitative data format that was amenable to analysis.
In the following sections, the researcher offer perspectives on the
implication of the findings for understanding the effectivity of instant
messaging app as an intervention to address learning concerns of
grade 10 students.
In this study, the result demonstrate that 90 % of both female and
male grade 10 students strongly agree that Instant App Messaging
has extremely helped them in communicating with the teacher
especially with their concerns.
Most students also strongly agree that they can easily access the app
to ask and send performed tasks and activities. However, due to
limited number of respondents, a further study is recommended.
Although the findings of this study have meaningful implications
for both responders and researcher, there are certain
limitations. First, the scope of this study was limited to the
Facebook Messenger app and a few number of respondents in a
limited environment. Therefore, comparisons with other instant
messaging apps and environment would be helpful in
generalizing the results of this study and lead to meaningful
insight.
11
CONCLUSION
The results of this study have several theoretical implications.
First, with an increasing number of students using Instant
Messaging App, the findings of this study reveal that the
characteristics of the platform itself have a considerable benefit
on the relationship between the teachers and students.

Second, Instant App Messaging as a tool to address students’

concerns is highly effective in a specific area and environment.

Lastly, this research may lead to further studies to effectively

see good results
