Computer
• A computer is an electronic device that accepts data,
performs operations, displays results, and stores the data
or results as needed.
• It is a combination of hardware and software resources
that integrate and provide various functionalities to the
user.
Hardware
• The physical parts, which you can see and touch, are
collectively called hardware.
Software
• Software, on the other hand, refers to the instructions, or
programs, that tell the hardware what to do.
• Two types
• System software
• Application software
Components of a Computer
Hardware
• Input devices
• Output devices
• Central Processing Unit
• Memory
• Storage
Input devices
• A computer will only respond when a command is given to
the device. These commands can be given using the the
input devices.
• The data entered can be in the form of numbers, alphabet,
images, etc.
• Examples: Mouse , Keyboard, microphone etc
Output devices
• Output devices are used to display processed data to the
user
• Most commonly used output devices are :
• Monitor
• Printer
• Speakers
• Headphones
Central Processing Unit
• It is "the brains of the computer", the CPU is the heart of
any computer system. It interprets and carries out basic
instructions that operate a computer.
Memory
• Memory is the part of the computer that holds data and
instructions for processing. Although closely associated
with the central processing unit, memory is separate from
it. Memory stores program instructions or data for only as
long as the program they pertain to is in operation.
Storage Devices
• Used to store data and programs permanently. Common
storage devices include hard disk drives (HDD), solid-state
drives (SSD).
