Problem-solving-style-in-mathematics.

This research proposal aims to analyze the impact of different mathematical problem-solving styles on academic performance among students. It identifies four distinct styles—sensing, intuitive, feeling, and thinking—and explores their relationship with students' profiles and performance metrics. The study will utilize descriptive-correlational methods and survey questionnaires to gather data and propose measures for improving students' mathematical problem-solving abilities.

Research Title: Problem-solving style in mathematics:Analyzing their impact on academic
performance.

INTRODUCTION:
Mathematics is essential in education, fostering
students' cognitive development and supporting
their academic success. Students approach
mathematical problems through diverse problem-
solving styles, such as systematic, intuitive, and
creative methods, which influence their
understanding and performance. These styles are
shaped by cognitive and psychological traits,
including sensing, intuitive thinking, and
emotional responses, and can impact academic

INTRODUCTION:

There are four distinct mathematical

problem-solving style-sensing, intuitive,
feeling and thinking.
Students with a sensing style are focus on
using concrete and specific facts, whereas
students with intuitive style rely on
abstract and creativity. While feeling
problem-solvers use their emotions and

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

The study is based on the original

problem-solving style model, which
is grounded in Jung's (1923) concept
of psychological functions and
further expanded by Moon (2008)
and Taylor and Mackenny (2008).
This model identifies four

OUTLINE OF RELATED CONCEPT LITERATURES

Mathematical problem-solving style
Gahi et al. (2023) examined problem-solving style
by integrating Carl Jung psychological types with
educational setting. Their research focus on how
different psychological functions-sensing, feeling,
intuition and thinking-affect problem-solving
approaches in academic performance.
Academic Performance
According to Magsambol (2020), the results also
indicated that Filipino pupils performed worse than
students from other countries in international
mathematics exams.

Mathematical problem-solving style and
Academic performance
The academic performance of students,
often measured through their general weighted
average (GWA), has been shown to correlate
with problem-solving styles. Research by Smith
and Huang (2024) indicates that students who
engage in reflective thinking and problem-
solving, a characteristic often associated with
sensing and thinking styles, demonstrate higher
