Scope and Delimitation of the


Study, Significance of the Study,
Stating the Problem
The following are the important concepts that you
need to remember from the previous lesson:

 Qualitativeresearch is an inquiry process of


understanding a social or human problem based on
building complex holistic picture formed with words,
reporting detailed views of informants and conducting
in natural setting (Cresswell, 1994).

A research question is a clear, specific, and


focused question that guides a research
study. It identifies what the researcher wants
to find out and helps shape the direction of
the research.
Examples of Research Questions:

•How does social media impact the study habits


of Grade 11 students?

•What are the challenges students face in


managing their study time due to social media
use?

•In what ways do students use social media as a


learning tool?
In your study, social media is considered the
independent variable because it is the factor that
influences or affects students' study habits, which is the
dependent variable.

Explanation:
•The independent variable is the cause or factor that is
changed or observed to see its effects.
•The dependent variable is the effect or outcome that is
being measured in response to the independent variable.
 Applying This to Your Study:
• Social Media (Independent Variable)
→ Study Habits (Dependent
Variable)
• The study aims to examine how
students' use of social media affects
their study habits, meaning social
media is the cause, and study habits are
the result.
Writing the Thesis Statement

Every paper you write should have a main point, a


main idea, or central message. The argument(s) you
make in your paper should reflect this main idea. The
sentence that captures your position on this main idea
is what we call a thesis statement.

A thesis statement focuses your ideas into one or


two sentences. It should present the topic of your
paper and also make a comment about your
position in relation to the topic. Your thesis
statement should tell your reader what the paper is
about and also help guide your writing and keep
your argument focused.

research paper or essay. It tells the reader
what the paper is about and sets the direction
for the study.
Example of Thesis Statement:

Thesis Statement:

This study explores the impact of social media on


Grade 11 students' study habits, examining both its
benefits and drawbacks. While social media provides
access to educational resources and collaborative
learning opportunities, it also poses challenges such
as distractions and procrastination. Through
qualitative research methods, this study aims to
identify strategies that help students use social
media effectively for academic success.
SCOPE AND DELIMITATION THE SCOPE OF YOUR STUDY

The scope explains what the study is about, including


the topic and focus.
The limitations describe the challenges, like time,
location, or number of participants.
The delimitations explain what was included or
excluded and why.
In short, the scope is what the study covers, limitations
are the challenges, and delimitations are the choices
made by the researcher.
Scope and Delimitation of the Study

This study focuses on the impact of social media on the study habits of Grade
11 students. It explores both the positive and negative effects of social media,
such as its role in providing educational resources versus its potential to cause
distractions and procrastination. The study also examines how students manage
their time while using social media for academic purposes.
The research is limited to 10 Grade 11 students from different academic
backgrounds in a single school. It uses interviews and focus group
discussions as data collection methods, meaning findings will be based on
students’ personal experiences rather than numerical data.
The study does not cover other factors affecting study habits, such as family
influence, mental health, or socioeconomic status. Additionally, it does not
include students from other grade levels or schools. The results will reflect only
the experiences of the selected participants and may not represent all students.
Scope:

study. You can do this by observing a one-to-
one correspondence between the statement

B. Write from general to specific contribution

Write the significance of the study by looking into


the general contribution of your study, such as its
importance to society as a whole, then proceed
downwards--towards its contribution to individuals
and that may include yourself as a researcher. You
start off broadly then taper off gradually to a
specific group or person.

The findings of this study will highlight the impact of social media on
students' study habits, which is crucial in today's digital age. As social
media becomes increasingly integrated into daily life, understanding
its effects on academic performance can benefit society, particularly
the education sector.
The study will help schools and educators develop more effective
strategies for guiding students toward responsible social media usage
while maintaining productive study habits. By applying the insights
from this research, teachers can design more engaging and efficient
learning methods that incorporate the advantages of social media
while minimizing its distractions.
School administrators will gain valuable knowledge about the
influence of social media on student performance, allowing them to
create policies that promote academic success. The study can also
inform curriculum development by emphasizing digital literacy and
self-discipline in social media use.
For students, this research will provide awareness of
how social media affects their focus, time
