SU-Alert is used to quickly alert you in the event of a crisis or emergency that poses an immediate and life-threatening danger to campus. Everyone is strongly encouraged to use this system to receive important alerts.

What are the benefits of SU-Alert?
- Secure, web-based emergency alert system for the entire University and its stakeholders.
- Opt-in system, which means you choose to participate, and you select the way you want to be notified.
- Notifications are sent to your registered email address, and/or text message or voice call to your registered phone number.
- Compliments other emergency notification system you may use, such as Citizen app or NOAA, and focuses immediately on the University Community.
What types of "Emergency Messages" may I receive?
Depending upon the severity of the incident, SU-Alert messages can range from specific instructions to general warnings. Primarily, you may receive messages for emergency events that have an immediate or direct impact to Shippensburg University. Some examples may include:
- Bomb Threat/Suspicious Package – based on intelligence that indicates the threat is credible.
- Civil Disturbance – large group disrupting normal campus activities.
- Fire – fire to building(s), wildfires, local community or industry that endangers campus.
- Hazardous Material - dangerous or hazardous material incident that may pose a risk to the campus community.
- Major Road Closing/Off Campus Incident – unanticipated event that would disrupt safe passage to and from a campus.
- Medical Emergency – confirmed epidemic or event with mass casualties.
- Personal Safety/Physical Assault – active situations that include use of weapons, violence, perpetrator(s) at large, active shooter, hostage situation or missing persons. Any situation on or immediately off campus that constitutes an ongoing or continuing threat to persons or property on campus.
- Severe Weather – severe weather conditions that has the potential to cause injury to life or property. May include flooding, snow/ice/cold, thunderstorm, wind, tornado or hurricane.
- Utility Failure – a major disruption or damage to utilities including gas, electricity or water.
- Other, Life-Threatening: Any other condition where lives are in immediate danger and the Emergency Notification System has the potential to reduce the potential of harm.
- All Clear: All-clear and/or additional follow-up messages pertaining to end-of-event. For example: When an alert has been issued due to a potentially severe storm in the area, an "All Clear" message could be sent when the danger has passed.
The SU-Alert system WILL NOT be used for general notifications of a non-emergency nature and its use will be strictly limited to emergency events.
What other ways does the University deliver emergency messaging?
SU-Alert text messaging is the primary notification method for immediate and urgent situations. Depending upon the nature of the emergency, secondary notification systems may include:
