Received text from (775) 561-4928, requesting to purchase an item I was selling on craig's list. Text stated they were sending a cashier check and that it was accidently issued in an amount over the stated price. They would wait til check cleared and instruct me on where to send the over paid amount. I requested a live voice for verification. Received a call from (646) 248-7868 to verify. I could not hardly understand what they were saying so I hung up. Received text from (775) 561-4928 verifying the phone call asking if all was good. I replied "OK". Received follow up text stating cashier check was sent. Note I googled the initial text number and found nothing. I googled the live call number and found a lot of information regarding others who experienced the same and noting it was a scam. The trick is they send you a cashier check, over paying you. You cash the check and wire transfer them the over paid amount then then the check does not actually clear and your bank holds you responsible for the original cashier check that you cashed or deposited and the scammer gets away with tangible cash that you paid him from refunding him the over paid balance.
