Definition and Usage

The mysqli_real_connect() function establishes a connection with MySQL server and returns the connection as an object. The difference between the mysql_connect() function and this is that it accepts an object created by the mysqli_real_connect() needs a valid object which has to be created by function mysqli_init() function and, you can set additional options to a connection using the mysqli_options() function.

Syntax

mysqli_real_connect($con,[$host, $username, $passwd, $dname, $port, $socket, $flags] )

Parameters

Return Values

This function returns the boolean value which is true if the connection was successful and false incase of failure.

PHP Version

This function was first introduced in PHP Version 5 and works works in all the later versions.

Example

Following example demonstrates the usage of the mysqli_real_connect() function (in procedural style) −

   $db = mysqli_init();
   //Creating the connection
   $con = mysqli_real_connect($db, "localhost","root","password","test");
   if($con){
      print("Connection Established Successfully");
   }else{
      print("Connection Failed ");
   }
?>

This will produce following result −

Example

In object oriented style the syntax of this function is $con-> real_connect(); Following is the example of this function in object oriented style $minus;

   $con = $db->real_connect("localhost","root","password","test");

   if($con){
      print("Connection Established Successfully");
   }else{
      print("Connection Failed ");
   }
?>
