Affording UVA

As prospective students and their families plan for college, many will place affordability and value near the top of their list. Through its financial aid program, the University of Virginia strives to remove barriers to attending UVA so students can make the most of their college experience and be well positioned for the future.

We help talented students pursue their dreams. Students who are academically successful and demonstrate the potential to contribute to UVA’s vibrant intellectual community are offered admission, regardless of their financial situation or ability to pay.

  • We meet 100% of financial need. UVA meets the demonstrated financial need for all in-state and out-of-state students applying by the annual March 1 deadline. This is achieved through a combination of scholarships, grants, work-study and need-based loans.
  • Tuition assistance for Virginia households.
    • UVA will cover the cost of tuition, fees, room, and board for in-state undergraduates with family income of less than $50K.
    • UVA will cover the cost of tuition and fees to in-state undergraduates with family income of less than $100K.
    • UVA provides tuition grants of $2,000 to Virginia families with income less than $150,000.
  • Manageable loans. UVA is committed to limiting need-based loans for students with financial need, so they graduate with less debt.
