Marine Science, School of (now Coastal & Marine Sciences, Batten School of)
William & Mary’s Batten School of Coastal & Marine Sciences confers a professional master's (M.A.) degree and two research (M.S. and Ph.D.) degrees in marine science, preparing students to address societal and global challenges in estuarine, coastal and marine systems. -
Marine Science Minor
The undergraduate minor in marine science introduces students to estuarine, coastal, and marine processes and ecosystems. Classroom, lab, and outdoor field courses in fisheries, marine biology and ecology, marine chemistry, physical oceanography, aquatic health, and coastal and marine geology are taught by faculty from Arts & Sciences and the Batten School/VIMS. -
Mascot
Meet the Tribe's mascot! In 2010, William & Mary introduced the Griffin—a mythical creature with the head of an eagle and the body of a lion. -
Mathematics
The Mathematics Department at William & Mary is the home of mathematics, statistics, operations research, and actuarial science. Undergraduate and graduate students not only learn necessary advanced mathematics for their academic and professional goals, but also study mathematics to enjoy the beauty and sharpen their thoughts. -
McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center
The McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center is home to W&M Tennis and the ITA Women's Collegiate Hall of Fame. This award-winning facility welcomes both Williamsburg area residents and out-of-town visitors to play tennis and all are eligible to participate in programs with space permitting. -
McLeod Business Library
The McLeod Business Library is located on the second floor of the Mason School of Business in Miller Hall. A professional business reference librarian and student assistants are available to help access business reference materials. -
Medieval & Renaissance Studies
The program in medieval and Renaissance studies allows undergraduates to explore the history and culture of Europe between 300 CE and 1700 CE. -
[Hearth:] Memorial to the Enslaved
William & Mary has erected a brick memorial which resembles a fireplace and features the names of people who are known to have been enslaved by the university. -
[Asian and] Middle Eastern Studies Program
Asian & Middle Eastern studies (AMES) is a multidisciplinary program that explores a broadly conceived "Asia" in relation to other parts of the world. Undergraduate students explore the history, politics, religion, literature, fine and media arts, expressive and ritual culture, and the major languages of the region. -
Military & Veteran Affairs
The Office of Military & Veteran Affairs helps coordinate and support military and veteran programs across the university. We forge connections with external partners across military commands, corporations, veteran executives, alumni, federal programs, and other universities, and oversee the Veteran-to-Executive Transition (W&M VET) program. -
Military Science
The U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program combines courses in military science with practical leadership training. It prepares our students for success as leaders in the Army or in the profession of their choice. No military commitment is required for the first two years. -
Modern Languages & Literatures
The faculty in the Department of Modern Languages & Literatures teach undergraduate courses in literary and cultural studies, as well as classes in language instruction, in a total of eight programs: Arabic, Chinese, French & Francophone, German, Hispanic, Italian, Japanese and Russian studies. Offerings in literary and cultural studies include classes taught in English as well as in the target language. -
Muscarelle Museum of Art
The Muscarelle Museum of Art is a culturally-rich institution serving as a dynamic resource for our community, a working laboratory for William & Mary, and a platform for visiting exhibitions and the museum’s own collection. -
Music
Our undergraduate students create, study, and perform music from around the world and across time. Music lessons, ensembles, and introductory academic courses are open to all W&M students. We have wide-ranging courses and regular performances, and we hope to see you in the classroom, on stage, or in the audience.
