Portunus pelagicus and Portunus sanguinolentus were found throughout the years.Various ecological indices were calculated through the obtained data. The diversity ranged from 0.63 1.64, the richness varied from 0.84-1.76, the evenness ranged from 0.10.35, the index of dominance varied from 0.36 0.73. Maximum diversity was recorded during Pre monsoon (yr. 2005-06). The ecological indices were positively correlated with environmental parameters.

Species distribution and catch size varied with the months and showed a seasonal pattern in lagoon water. The change in salinity and temperature was observed as the main factor for change of species diversity and abundance in the Sonmiani Bay.

There is evidence to suggest that structural remodelling in psAF potentially gives rise to areas of rapid cycle length activity that may act as driving mechanisms. We describe a new method to compare rapid activity (RA) in psAF prior to and after pulmonary vein isolation, in extended AF segments (EAFS). We focus on patterns of RA, based on the hypothesis that AF drivers are transient but recur in the same locations. Methods. Five patients (61 ± 8 years of age, 3 male) for catheter ablation of psAF were included. 3D maps were collected with a double spiral 20 pole catheter. In stable locations, pre and post PVI, 37s EAFS were recorded using 8s segments, automatically every 1s, creating a 7s overlap between segments. Dominant cycle length (DCL) was determined for every 8s segment by a fully automated algorithm. RA was defined as the rapidest 20th percentile for each patient. RA episodes consisted of conti...

Crabs were collected on a monthly basis during low tide periods from March 2001 to February 2002 from the Korangi creek (2479’N/ 6720’E) through transect and quadrat method from low tide level to high tide level. Spatial and seasonal differences in density m distribution, with higher densities at high tide level were observed. Density of crabs varied in between 0 and 64 m. Unimodal size frequency distribution revealed the normal distribution of crabs. Size of the male crabs was significantly larger (t= -6.04, P<0.005, df= 157) than that of female crabs indicating sexual dimorphism. Morphometric analysis of different variables (carapace width, length, cheliped length, width and depth, abdominal width and length and in last Sinistral and Dextral state of enlarged cheliped in male crabs) were recorded to compare their allometry. Relationship that mostly indicated the positi...

Two artificial feeds experimental (40% protein) and reference (25% protein) were prepared in which chromic acid was added as digestibility marker. Feeds were given @ 4% of fish wet body weight twice a day. All the three species reared on experimental and control showed an equal growth trend. But when different species were compared among themselves, Cirrhinus mrigala yielded significantly higher (P ≤ 0.05) weight than Labeo rohita and Catla catla. A similar growth trend was observed in the control group whereas, Catla catla grew the least. When digestibility of different nutrients was compared, Catla catla in the control group digested protein (76.3±0.4%) equal to that of the experimental group (81.8±4.6%). Dry matter digestibility however, was signifi...

Among all the macrofauna inhabiting in the mangrove swamps, some brachyuran crab species are among the most important taxa with regard to species diversity and distribution The brachyuran crabs were collected from the low tide level to high tide level. Diversity and distribution of crabs were significantly different between the sites and among tidal levels. A total of 14 species of brachyuran crabs was recorded belongs to the family Ocypodidae, Macrophthalmidae, Dotillidae, Camptandriidae, Grapsidae and Xanthidae. The 11 species were from the Bhaira mangroves, while 10 species were recorded in Miani mangroves. The abundance of crabs varied between the tide levels among three habitats

We excavated 8 burrows in sorghum and groundnut crops and 5 burrows in wheat crops at the time of crop maturity, and 9 burrows on crop field boundaries during the non-crop summer season. For each burrow system we measured: the number and diameter of burrow openings, length, diameter and depth of burrow tunnels, number of chambers and amount of hoarded materials. Burrows in wheat crops were significantly shorter and the burrows on crop field boundaries were significantly shallower than those excavated in other habitats. Averaged over all 30 burrow systems, burrows had 2.1 number of openings with diameter of 8.3 cm. Burrow tunnels averaged 8.9 m long, 3.9 cm diameter wide and were 11.5 cm below ground surface. Each burrow system had 1.8 chambers. Hoarded material was recorded in 28 (93.3%) burrows, with a dry weight of hoarded f...

The crabs were collected from Korangi creek through transect and quadrat method from low tide level to high tide level. Two transects were delimited in a mangrove area of Korangi creek (24°79’'N/ 67°20’'E). On each transect, three 0.25 m quadrats were sampled at three tidal levels on a monthly basis during low tide periods from March 2001 to February 2002. A total of 1124 crabs were obtained, of which 482 were males and 642 were females. Density of crabs varied between 0 and 90 /m2. The density and size distribution varied and showed significant differences from low to high tide level, and were positively correlated with the percent moisture, percent organic matter and sediment grain size. The carapace width (CW) ranged from 2.5 to 11.5 mm for male and 2.5 to 11.0 mm for female and was not significantly different. The overall sex ratio did not differ significantl...
