Liza Anderson
I am a historical theologian with interests in Christian spirituality and ascetical theology, Syriac, ecumenism, and world Christianity.
My dissertation at Yale University examined the interpretation of Pseudo-Dionysius in early medieval Syrian Orthodox theology. I am currently working on a monograph about the various forms of spiritual dryness, desertions, and dark nights within ecumenical Christian spirituality and a short book on the theology of impeded and failed vocations.
I am also active in the ecumenical movement and the Episcopal Church, where I have served in a variety of roles, including the Executive Council, the Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music, and the General Board of Examining Chaplains. I currently serve as President of the North American Academy of Ecumenists.
I have worked, studied, and traveled in more than 100 countries, and also love vegetarian cooking, raising goats, and hanging out with nuns.
