- Der Alfa Romeo P2 war ein Rennwagen, den Vittorio Jano für Alfa Romeo 1924 als Nachfolger für den P1 entwickelte. Das Auto war die erste reine Rennsport-Kreation von Jano für Alfa Romeo, nachdem Nicola Romeo den P1 wegen seiner schlechten Leistung beim Monza Grand Prix 1923 gegen Fiat nicht mehr einsetzte. - The Alfa Romeo P2 won the inaugural Automobile World Championship in 1925, taking victory in two of the four championship rounds when Antonio Ascari drove it in the European Grand Prix at Spa and Gastone Brilli-Peri won the Italian Grand Prix at Monza after Ascari died while leading the intervening race at Montlhery. Although 1925 brought drastic changes of regulations, from 1924 to 1930 the P2 was victorious in 14 Grands Prix and major events including the Targa Florio. It was one of the iconic Grand Prix cars of the 1920s, along with the Bugatti Type 35, and enabled Alfa Romeo, as world champions, to incorporate the laurel wreath into their logo. The P2 was introduced by Alfa Romeo for the in northern Italy in 1924, where Antonio Ascari won at over 158 km/h (98 mph), and then went on to win the speed trial at 195 km/h (121 mph). The car was the first creation of Alfa's new designer Vittorio Jano who had been recruited from Fiat by Enzo Ferrari when Nicola Romeo scrapped the P1 after its poor performance in the 1923 Monza Grand Prix against Fiat. The P2 was powered by Alfa's first straight-8 cylinder supercharged engine with 2 carburettors placed after the compressor. Only 2 of the 6 original models survive, and they can be seen in the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese and the Turin Automobile Museum. The P2 had two body styles using either a cut off or long rear. One of the P2s was featured on the main sculpture at the 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed. (en)

Cette automobile est la première création de l'ingénieur Vittorio Jano, recruté ensuite par Enzo Ferrari, alors pilote essayeur chez Alfa Romeo, qu'il arrache littéralement à Fiat pour renforcer le bureau d'études Alfa après le cuisant échec de l'Alfa Romeo P1. Les nombreux succès en course des années 1920 permettent au constructeur milanais d'ajouter la couronne de laurier sur son logo, qui restera jusqu'en 1971, lorsque la marque décida de le restyler. Le moteur dispose de deux carburateurs gavés par deux compresseurs, ce qui constitue le premier système de suralimentation d'un moteur. La voiture remporte brillamment le premier Championnat du monde des manufacturiers (ou constructeurs) en 1925 (première version de l'actuel championnat du monde de Formule 1), avec notamment Antonio Ascari, qui décèdera sur le circuit de Montlhéry près de Paris le 26 juillet (en 1925 Ascari gagne en Belgique et Gastone Brilli-Peri en Italie, deux courses inscrites à ce championnat). Malgré le changement de règlement intervenu en 1925, l'Alfa Romeo P2 remporte, sans aucun changement dans sa conception, entre 1924 et 1930, quatorze courses dont la Targa Florio. La voiture est engagée pour la première fois au Grand Prix couru sur le circuit de Cremona, en Italie, en 1924, remporté par Antonio Ascari au volant de la P2 à la moyenne de 158 km/h. Seulement deux exemplaires de cette voiture sont conservés, l'un au Musée Historique Alfa Romeo d'Arese, l'autre au Musée de l'Automobile Carlo Biscaretti de Turin. (fr)
