- Der BMW N62 ist ein Ottomotor mit 8 Zylindern in V-Anordnung des bayerischen Fahrzeugherstellers BMW und Nachfolger des BMW M62. Der Motorblock besteht aus , einer übereutektischen Aluminiumlegierung (AlSi17Cu4Mg), und wurde von 2001 bis 2010 in München hergestellt. Jeder Zylinder hat 4 Ventile und eine indirekte sequentielle Kraftstoffeinspritzung Sequential Fuel Injection (SFI). Die Ventilsteuerung erfolgt über die BMW-Valvetronic und die Doppel-Nockenwellenverstellung VANOS. Des Weiteren ist der N62 gegenüber dem Vorgängermotor BMW M62 jetzt auch im Volllast-Betrieb über die Lambdasonden kraftstoffmengengeregelt. Das senkt im Volllast-Betrieb den Kraftstoffverbrauch und verbessert die Abgaswerte wie den Gehalt an Kohlenmonoxid (CO), Kohlenwasserstoff (HC), Stickoxide (NOx) und vor allem von Benzol. Beim International Engine of the Year Award gewann der N62 im Jahre 2002 in den Kategorien Best New Engine, Above 4-litre sowie International Engine of the Year. Nachfolger wurde der BMW N63. (de)
