- Das Bute Inlet ist ein Fjord an der Westküste der kanadischen Provinz British Columbia. Der Fjord befindet sich im Norden des Strathcona Regional District. Die im Mittel 3,4 km breite Bucht schlängelt sich 80 km in nördlicher Richtung in die Pacific Ranges im Süden der Coast Mountains. In das nördliche Kopfende münden die Flüsse Homathko River und Southgate River. Am südlichen Ausgang befindet sich die Insel , eine der Discovery Islands. Östlich der Insel ist der Fjord mit dem , westlich mit dem verbunden. Benannt wurde das Bute Inlet im Jahr 1792 von Kapitän George Vancouver nach John Stuart, 3. Earl of Bute (1713–1792), einem britischen Politiker. Der geplante Bau einer Straßenverbindung zwischen der Mündung des Bute Inlet und Alexandria, welcher von Alfred Waddington vorangetrieben wurde, war im Jahr 1864 schließlich Auslöser für den Chilcotin-Krieg. It is 80 km (50 mi) long from the estuaries of the Homathko and Southgate Rivers at the head of the inlet, to the mouth, where it is nearly blocked by Stuart Island, and it averages about 4 km (2.5 mi) in width. Bute Inlet is in a spectacular wilderness setting and is one of the most scenic waterways in the world. In the upper reaches of the inlet mountains rise 2,700 m (9,000 ft) feet above sea level. Le tracé de la baie Bute est alors prolongé sur trente kilomètres au milieu des îles Discovery, par le Calm Channel et le Sutil Channel, jusqu'à l'extrémité nord du détroit de Géorgie qui sépare l'île de Vancouver du continent. La baie a une largeur moyenne de 3 700 mètres et sa profondeur maximale atteint 650 mètres. Le fjord est entouré de hautes montagnes qui culminent à plus de 3 000 mètres. Son seuil est situé juste à l'extérieur de la baie dans le Calm Channel sa profondeur est de 370 mètres. La Homathko draine un bassin de 5 720 km2 qui comporte plusieurs champs de glace permanents et l'apport en eau dans la baie est à son maximum durant la fonte des neiges en juillet. Son nom, Bute Inlet, lui a été donné par le capitaine britannique George Vancouver en l'honneur de John Stuart (1713 - 1792), troisième comte de Bute, ancien premier ministre de Grande-Bretagne, qui venait de décéder.
