Clapp also played a crucial role in securing a partnership between Hawaii and sports apparel brand Under Armour, a deal that is still in effect today. Clapp was rumored to be a candidate for the open athletics director at his alma mater UC Santa Barbara after the retirement of Gary Cunningham. He applied for the open athletic director position at the University of Montana in 2012 and was one of four finalists, but the job ultimately went to Kent Haslam. (en)
