Eliot Janeway (January 1, 1913—February 8, 1993), born Eliot Jacobstein, was an American economist, journalist and author, widely quoted during his lifetime, whose career spanned seven decades. For a time his ideas gained some influence within the administration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and he was an informal economic advisor to Lyndon B. Johnson, especially during Johnson's years in Congress, though he broke with Johnson over the economics of the Vietnam War. His eclectic approach focused on the interaction between political pressures, economic policy and market trends. He was at times a vigorous critic of the economic policies of presidents from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Ronald Reagan. His enduring pessimism about US economic prospects earned him the nickname "Calamity Janeway"

  • Eliot Janeway (New York, Ameriketako Estatu Batuak, 1913ko urtarrilaren 1a - Ib., 1993ko otsailaren 8a) Estatu Batuetako ekonomista politiko garrantzitsuenetako bat izan zen. Presio politikoak ekonomiaren eta merkatuaren joerak baldintzatzen dituelako teoria polemiko eta probokatzailea proposatu zuen eta Calamity Janeway goitizena eman zioten Wall Streeten, burtsa-merkatuaren porrotaren aurreikuspen goibelak egiten zituelako etengabe. Ekonomia- eta politika-ikasketak egin zituen. The Nation aldizkarian 1937-1938ko berehalako krisialdia aurreikusiz eta konponbideak eskainiz zenbait artikulu idatzi ondoren, eragin handia izan zuen Franklin D. Roosevelten politikagintzan. Politikoki independentea izanik, Franklin D. Rooseveltekin hasi eta Ronald Reagan bitarteko politika ekonomiko guztiak kritikatu zituen, liburuetan eta Chicago Tribune-New York News Sindicaterako idazten zituen artikuluetan. Struggle for Survival (1951, Bizirik irauteko borroka) bere lehen liburuaren ondoren, beste asko idatzi zituen inbertsore pribatuentzat: What Shall I Do With My Money? (1970, Zer egingo dut nire diruarekin?), You and Your Money (1972, Zu eta zeure dirua), eta, gobernuaren politika aztertuz, Prescriptions for Prosperity (1983, Aberastasuna sortzeko arauak) eta The Economics of Chaos (1983, Kaosaren ekonomia).
