- The fourth season of the Fairy Tail anime series was directed by Shinji Ishihira and produced by A-1 Pictures and Satelight. Like the rest of the series, it follows the adventures of Natsu Dragneel and Lucy Heartfilia of the fictional guild Fairy Tail. It continues the "Sirius Island" (天狼島編, "Tenrōjima-hen") story arc from the third season, where Fairy Tail's S-Class examination on Sirius Island is interrupted by the arrival of Grimoire Heart, who attempt to retrieve the dark wizard Zeref living on the island. The season initially ran from October 15, 2011 to April 7, 2012 on TV Tokyo in Japan. Seven DVD compilations were released, each containing four episodes, by Pony Canyon between March 7 and September 5, 2012. The season was licensed for a dubbed broadcast in English by Animax Asia, which released it as part of "Season 3". Funimation Entertainment released the episodes with their own English-dubbed version across three Blu-ray/DVD box sets, released on March 25, May 20, and July 15 in 2014 along with the first six episodes of season 5. The episodes were made available on Funimation's website as "Season 4". The season makes use of 6 pieces of theme music: three opening themes and three ending themes. The opening themes are "Towa no Kizuna" (永久のキズナ, "Everlasting Bond") performed by Daisy x Daisy until episode 111, "I Wish" performed by Milky Bunny until episode 124, and "Hajimari no Sora" (はじまりの空, "Beginning Sky") performed by +Plus for the rest of the season. The ending themes, used with the opening themes, are "Kono Te Nobashite" (この手伸ばして, "Reach Out This Hand") and "Boys Be Ambitious", both performed by Hi-Fi Camp, and "Glitter (Starving Trancer Remix)" by Another Infinity. Essi mostrano le vicende riguardanti l'esame per diventare un mago di classe S della gilda Fairy Tail, che si svolgono sull'isola Tenrou e vedono la partecipazione dei maggiori membri del gruppo, e la loro interruzione causata dall'attacco della gilda Grimoire Heart giunta in cerca del mago oscuro Zeref. In seguito la gilda subisce l'attacco del drago Acnologia e rimane congelata per sette anni per via dell'incantesimo lanciato da Mavis Vermillion per proteggere la gilda e l'isola. Gli episodi sono stati trasmessi in Giappone su TV Tokyo dal 15 ottobre 2011 al 7 aprile 2012 a cadenza settimanale ogni sabato. In Italia la stagione è andata in onda su Rai 4 dal 27 maggio al 1º luglio 2016; a partire dall'episodio 116 la serie è stata spostata dalla fascia pomeridiana a quella notturna. La stagione utilizza tre sigle di apertura: Towa no kizuna di (episodi 101-111), I Wish di (episodi 112-124) e Hajimari no sora dei (episodio 125), e tre sigle di chiusura: Kono te nobashite di (episodi 101-111), Boys Be Ambitious! di Hi-Fi CHAMP (episodi 112-124) e Glitter di con (episodio 125).
