Elle est enregistrée pour la première fois par le groupe Devil's Disciples en 1964, en face B de leur single qui avait en face A la chanson de Arthur Alexander You Better Move On. Ce groupe Devil's Disciples avait pour guitariste Peter Banks, qui jouerait en 1968 avec Yes. Puis le groupe Herman's Hermits la sortent en Juin 1965 sur leur album , prenant de vitesse The Yardbirds qui la reprennent à leur tour en Août 1965 et elle se classe 3e au Royaume-Uni et 6e aux États-Unis. Malgré son succès, elle marque également le départ du guitariste Eric Clapton, qui n'apprécie pas la direction pop que semble prendre le groupe à travers cette chanson qu'il n'a jouée qu'avec réticence. Humble Pie, le groupe de Steve Marriott, l'a joué en concert en 1969 à l'époque de Peter Frampton, dans un style beaucoup plus proche du blues, elle est parue sur l'album Live at the Whiskey A-Go-Go '69 publié en 2002. Eric Clapton som var gitarrist i gruppen vid tidpunkten lämnade Yardbirds efter att denna singel släppts då han tyckte den var för kommersiell för deras R&B-baserade ljudbild. Han började istället spela med John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. Låten finns med i flera filmer, bland annat Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas och The Boat That Rocked.
